1.What is the "Checked baggage"?

 “Checked baggage” is the baggage handed over to the carrier for care and transportation with issuance of a baggage ticket to the passengers.

2.What is the "carry-on baggage"?

 “Carry-on baggage” is the baggage carried and looked after by the passengers during the entire travel period including the stopover time. “Carry-on baggage” must be approved by the carrier after being weighted and counted.

3.What is the allowance of free checked baggage?

Please check your baggage at the check-in counter or self-service baggage checking equipment in advance. China Southern Airlines may inspect your baggage at check-in counter, security check counter, boarding gate and cabin. Your baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged as per excess baggage rate. Purchasing “Pre-paid Luggage” in advance through our official website is entitled to discounts.

Domestic flights :

Passengers（adults or children） : 40 kg for first class, 30 kg for business class and 20 kg for premium economy and economy class. For infants, the baggage allowance is 10 kg. 

International/regional Flights:

In addition, the free baggage allowance for routes between Urumqi and Dubai is: 1 piece for Premium Economy Class, 32KG/ piece; 1 piece for Economy Class, 23KG/ piece; for First Class and Business Class, as shown in the table.

All international and regional flights are subject to piece-concept baggage transportation rules and are calculated in accordance with the IATA Baggage Resolution 302;

4.Is the same baggage allowance system applied for both domestic routes and international routes?

5.What are the preferential policies on checked baggage for Sky Pearl members?

For routes applied with weight-based checked baggage rules, Sky Pearl Gold and Silver Card members can enjoy a free extra checked baggage weighted no more than 20kg and 10kg, respectively.

For routes applied with piece-based rules, Sky Pearl Gold and Silver Card members can enjoy an additional piece of baggage despite of cabin class. 


6.Why is the overweight baggage charged?
The charging of overweight baggage is aimed to guarantee your baggage safety and the rights of other passengers. Meanwhile, this is the support to our work. Please dial China Southern Airlines selling service hotline 95539 if you have further problems.
7.Is a baggage allowance available for children?

Yes. The baggage allowance for children is the same as adults. 

8.Is the baggage allowance available for infants?

Yes. An infant with an infant ticket is entitled to a baggage allowance of 10kg. 

9.Is the baggage allowance available for stretcher passengers?

Yes, the baggage allowance for stretcher passengers is 180kg since the conditions and processes for a stretcher passenger are special, meaning that the baggage allowance is special. 

10.Is the restriction on baggage the same in different airlines?

No. You can refer to other airlines’ websites for further information.

11.Is the restriction on baggage the same in codeshare airlines?
Codeshare flights mean that an airline or multiple airlines use their respective codes for other airlines' flights as provided in their agreement. If you take CZ's codeshare flight, you will be subject to rules of the actual carrier on aspects such as free baggage allowance, fee scale for excess baggage. 12.I booked a "First Class" ticket. However, the ticket has become Business-Class for some reason. Does the baggage allowance change under such a situation?
If you book a first class ticket and the cabin is changed involuntarily, the baggage allowance will remain as that for first class ticket.
13.Can I take lithium batterys in the Checked baggage? If yes, how many can I take?
It is forbidden to put spare battery in the checked baggage. Please put it in the carry-on baggage when boarding. If the specification of lithium battery in the equipment or spare lithium battery is greater than 100Wh while less than 160Wh, it should be declared to the airline and approved by it before boarding.
