According to the common practice of civil aviation industry, China Southern Airlines may make appropriate over-booking on some flights. Under particular circumstances, it may result in some passengers’ failure to travel on flights as arranged. When there is not enough space, China Southern Airlines will seek passengers voluntary to disembark and will help them check in on priority. For passengers who cannot travel due to over-booking, China Southern Airlines will do its best to arrange them on the soonest available flight, and will give a certain amount of compensation.
A codeshare flight is a flight in which two or more airlines use their own airline designator and flight number through a business agreement. For the codeshare flights of China Southern Airlines, the regulations on UM, free baggage allowance and other matters are subject to those specified by the operating carriers. For details, passengers may check on the website of the operating carrier or through the website and hotline of China Southern Airlines.
The maximum limit of compensation made by China Southern Airlines for each passenger in the event of accidental death or bodily injury shall be defined in accordance with related laws and conventions.
If China Southern Airlines' flight is delayed or cancelled at origin airport due to China Southern Airlines’ reasons such as aircraft maintenance, flight readjustment or aircrew, China Southern Airlines should provide passengers with services such as meal or accommodations. If China Southern Airlines' flight is delayed or cancelled due to non-China Southern Airlines reasons such as changes of weather, accidents, air transport control, etc., China Southern Airlines should assist passengers in obtaining meals or accommodations at passengers' own expenses.
According to government regulations, passengers and their baggage are subject to the security inspection before boarding.
Liability for partial or total loss, damage to checked baggage is limited to ¥100 per kilogram. Compensation for baggage's value lower than ¥100 per kilogram will be paid according to its actual value.
The checked baggage shall be packed correctly, well locked, tied up and be able to withstand reasonable pressure. China Southern Airlines may refuse to accept the baggage packed incorrectly and to bear the liability for the damage of such baggage.
Passengers are not allowed to pack confidential documents in the checked baggage, such as out of print materials or manuscripts, travel documents, diplomatic bags, negotiable securities, currencies, money orders, valuables including but not limited to jewelry, antique calligraphy and painting, sample, precious metals and articles thereof, electronic and digital products, raw accessories of camera, mobile telephones, personal stereos, regularly taken prescribed drugs, fragile and perishable articles and other articles required special custody. The loss or damage of the above items packed in checked baggage is handled as per the rules applicable to common checked baggage by China Southern Airlines.
All passengers’ portable electronic devices with lithium-ion batteries shall be taken as check-in baggage or cabin baggage to the plane, such as mobile phones, laptop computers, cameras, etc. Reasonable number of spare batteries can only be taken as cabin baggage to the plane. Please turn off the electronic devices with lithium-ion batteries during flights; each spare battery should be put into individual plastic bag or protective case and it is strictly forbidden to mix multiple batteries with other items.
1. It is not necessary to report the lithium-ion batteries in devices or spare lithium-ion batteries with specification less than 100Wh;
2. Those with rated watt hours of 100Wh and above but no more than 160Wh, should be declared to China Southern Airlines for approval when you are checking in. You are allowed to take only two pieces of 100-160Wh backup battery;
3. Lithium-ion batteries with rated watt hours of over 160Wh, or number beyond the reasonable range, should be declared to China Southern Airlines for freight service when you are checking in.
Passengers are not allowed to carry dangerous articles in check-in or carry-on baggage, such as inflammable, explosive, corrosive, toxic, radioactive, polymerizable, and magnetic materials. Passengers on board are not allowed to carry arms, restricted swords and knives, sharp or lethal weapons.
No-show means a passenger fails to board the aircraft either because he/she has not completed the check-in formalities before the check-in deadline or because he/she fails to present the required traveling documents. Tickets refund or change for no-show passengers shall be processed as per the China Southern Airlines rules applicable to refund and change after departure. When passengers confirm they cannot fly with reserved flight, they shall advise China Southern Airlines or agents in advance and cancel the booking.
For voluntary refunds, subject to related regulations of China Southern Airlines, passengers shall go through the procedure within the refund validity period 【13 months from the day that the travel starts (if the first segment of the ticket is unused, the period should start from the day the ticket is issued)】and under the circumstance that the ticket is not used.
In principle, a passenger requesting a refund should go through the procedure at the original place of purchase; for exchanged tickets, he/she may also go through the procedure at the place of exchange. Involuntarily refunds may be handled by the ticket office affiliated with China Southern Airlines at the place where the ticket is purchased, where the flight originates, where it stops over, or where it terminates, the ticket office affiliated with China Southern Airlines that receives the refund request from passengers, or the authorized sales agent of China Southern Airlines at the place where the involuntary refund event takes place.
Patients with infectious diseases, psychopaths with aggressive behaviors, patients with severe cardiac and cerebrovascular diseases, patients with severe respiratory system diseases, patients with severe anemia, parturient women (pregnant woman with singleton pregnancy of more than 36 weeks or with multiple pregnancy of more than 32 weeks), infants born less than 14 days, postoperative patient (postoperative less than 10 days) or other patients medically inappropriate to fly. Passengers shall complete check-in formalities before the check-in deadline specified by China Southern Airlines with valid ID documents. Check-in deadlines may vary among different airports, so passengers are recommended to learn the relevant check-in deadline in advance and follow it when checking in.
The fare to be paid by passengers covers transportation expenses from the origin airport to the destination airport, excluding any ground transportation charges between airport and downtown; and the taxes, charges, or fees for services provided to the passengers that are collected by the government or authorities or the airport are not included. The use of special type ticket should be in accordance with its stated rule.
Except otherwise herein provided, the ticket validity for domestic air transportation is one year. The validity shall be measured from the date of commencement of travel for normal ticket; for the normal ticket with an unused first segment or for open ticket, the one year transport validity shall be measured from the date of issuance. The validity of special type ticket shall be subject to its applicable rule stated by China Southern Airlines.
Only for use by the passenger listed on the ticket. Tickets may not be transferred to someone else or modified, otherwise they will become invalid and the fare non-refundable. Tickets must be used in sequence.
Itinerary of E-ticket refers to a document issued to passenger as the proof of payment or reimbursement certificate when passenger purchases civil aviation carriage in form of e-ticket from airline companies, which is not an essential certificate for check-in procedure and security check. Itinerary of E-ticket cannot be printed repeatedly and will not be re-issued if lost.
China Southern Airlines provides seat allocation reservation for some operating flights. After the purchase, passengers may reserve seat allocation via China Southern Airlines’ homepages, hotline, booking offices or authorized sales agents. China Southern Airlines shall make adequate efforts to meet seat allocation requests from passengers but cannot guarantee the allocation of a given seat. Given operating, security or safety concerns, China Southern Airlines reserves the right to change the seat allocation even after boarding.
Special passengers who need special attention and adaptation based on their physical and mental ability such as UM, person with physical disability or intellectual impairment, pregnant woman, serious patient, etc. can only be transported under certain condition. Special passengers can only book a ticket with the agreement of China Southern Airlines or other carriers. If special passengers do not advise China Southern Airlines in advance during the ticket purchase or present the relevant certificates, China Southern Airlines has the right to refuse the carriage.
To purchase tickets, Chinese passengers must present valid documents as prescribed by competent government authorities (such as resident ID cards, valid passports, certificates of military officer, certificates of compulsory serviceman, certificates of police officer, certificates of PAP soldier, etc., and other valid ID documents issued by public security organs); foreign tourists, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao residents and Taiwan compatriots are required to present travel documents for Hong Kong and Macao residents and Taiwan compatriots, residence permits for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents, and permanent residence (identity) certificates for foreigners. To purchase infants and children tickets, passengers should provide valid certificates such as household registers and birth certificates. At the time of ticket purchase, passengers must provide valid travel documents to be used for check-in at airports.
Passengers can only board the aircraft after they have reserved their seats. Passengers may reserve their seats in advance through the sales offices, authorized agencies, hotline or homepages of China Southern Airlines. Passengers who have already reserved their seats shall purchase their tickets within the time limit specified by China Southern Airlines, otherwise the reservation will be cancelled. If passengers do not intend to use the seats reserved, they shall ask China Southern Airlines’ sales offices or its agents to cancel the reservation as early as possible.
E-ticket can be purchased at the sales offices, sales agencies of China Southern Airlines or via its homepages. Due to differences between ticket distribution channels, purchase time, and scheduled flights, there may be differences in prices and service conditions. 1. On the day when travel starts, a child who has come to the age of 2, but is under the age of 12 will be charged 50% of the normal or applicable adult fare of the same flight and shall occupy a seat accordingly. For unaccompanied children, the fare is specified separately. Each adult passenger of 18 years of age or above with full capacity for civil conduct may only carry up to two children under the age of twelve.
2. Infant younger than 2 years of age without a seat will be charged 10% of the normal or applicable adult fare of the same flight.
3. Only one infant may enjoy the discount while travelling in the company of an adult, and an infant younger than 2 years of age with a seat will apply the child fare. Infants, children under 5 years of age and children above 5 years of age who haven’t been registered as Unaccompanied Minors are not permitted to travel unless they are accompanied by an adult passenger of 18 years of age or above with full capacity for civil conduct. Each adult passenger of 18 years of age or above with full capacity for civil conduct is allowed to have no more than two children under age 12 to take the plane together with them in the same class cabin. The rest children exceeding the allowable number (who buy ticket at the price for adult) should take the plane according to the provisions for unaccompanied children.

In general, check-in for special passengers opens 1-3 hours before the flight departure.
When a passenger would like to change flight, traveling date or class after purchasing tickets, China Southern Airlines will arrange according to the actual circumstance and conditions of carriage. Passengers' voluntary change shall be requested within China Southern Airlines’ stated time limit and handled in line with China Southern Airlines’ use rules applicable to public fare or special type fare. If such change causes a variation in fare: If the fare becomes higher, the difference shall be at the cost of the passenger and the change service fee shall be charged; if the fare becomes lower, the request shall be handled as voluntary refund, and the passenger may repurchase the ticket. For non-voluntary change, if the passengers, who enjoy preferential prices of the China Southern Airlines’ international and domestic flights (including foreign airline tickets), don't accept the unified arrangement by the airline, such change may be handled for once free of charge. The options of flight date change are:
1. Full-price tickets with reserved seat in Class F/J/W/Y:
For full-price tickets with reserved seat in Class F/J/W/Y (including normal child tickets), there are no restrictions for date changes;
Discounted-price tickets of international and domestic flights operated by China Southern Airlines (including tickets of other airlines) with reserved seat in Class F/J/W/Y are subject to the restrictions for “tickets with reserved seat in non-Class F/J/W/Y;
2. Tickets with reserved seat in non-Class F/J/W/Y:
For announced/ discounted-price tickets with reserved seat in non-Class F/J/W/Y, the dates applicable to change are as follows:
(1) Domestic ticket: Within 7 days before and after the scheduled date of the original ticket of the flight to be changed or the subsequent connecting flight (including the day of flight departure); for example, if the original flight is on November 10, it may be changed to the flights scheduled on November 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16;
(2) International ticket: Within 7 days before and 14 days after the scheduled date of the original ticket of the flight to be changed or the subsequent connecting flight (including the day of flight departure); for example, if the original flight is on November 10, it may be changed to the flights scheduled on November 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23.
(3) If exceeding such time limit, the ticket shall be handled as per full cancellation or voluntary change.
The maximum accepted weight of free carry-on baggage per passenger is 5 kg. Passengers holding a first class ticket may carry two pieces of free carry-on baggage; passengers holding a business class or economy class ticket can only carry one piece of baggage. For every carry-on baggage, its three dimensions must be no larger than 20x40x55cm. Carry-on items that exceed the limits to weight or volume should be transported as checked baggage. Please check your baggage at the check-in counter or self-service baggage checking equipment in advance. China Southern Airlines may inspect your baggage at check-in counter, security check counter, boarding gate and cabin. Your baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged as per excess baggage rate. According to the Regulation on the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (Order No. 42 of the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China, 2016), if your carry-on excess baggage doesn’t comply with relevant regulations, you must re-check the baggage at check-in counter or self-service baggage checking equipment, and such baggage may not arrive at the destination on the same flight with you.
Passengers (adults or children) are entitled to the free baggage allowance as follows: 40 kg for first class, 30 kg for business class and 20 kg for premium economy and economy class. For infants, the baggage allowance is 10 kg. Please check your baggage at the check-in counter or self-service baggage checking equipment in advance. China Southern Airlines may inspect your baggage at check-in counter, security check counter, boarding gate and cabin. Your baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged as per excess baggage rate. Regardless of the fare class actually paid by the passenger and the actual position of their seat, baggage carried on China Southern Airlines flights which exceeds the free baggage allowance is charged according to the following excess baggage rates: Excess baggage is charged by kilogram at a rate of 1.5% of the full adult one-way economy class ticket price applicable on the day of billing; If no direct flight price is published, the rate is calculated by adding all flight segments.
Passengers can purchase Life Air Travel Accident Insurance voluntarily with an insurance company. The compensation from such insurance does not exempt or reduce the liability undertaken by China Southern Airlines. Insurances purchased by passengers directly through China Southern Airlines' homepage have the same legal effect.
