Flights to Perugia

The flight time to Perugia from London is around 2 hours and 25 minutes. You can fly directly from London Heathrow (LHR) to Umbria International Airport (PEG) three times weekly, giving you plenty of choice and flexibility. With seasonal flights operating from June to mid-September, you’ll be able to experience Perugia at it’s best.

Make the most of Perugia’s traditional Mediterranean climate. In terms of weather, the months of May to early October are preferable, although this is understandably a busier time of year - especially when festivals are on. From May through to September, there’s the lowest rainfall on average and pleasant warm temperatures whilst July and August are the hottest months.

However, due to its higher altitude, Perugia can be subject to chillier evenings, even during the summer. In the springtime, witness the ‘green heart of Italy’ flourish and bloom or see the patchwork hills begin to change colour in early autumn. If you do travel to Perugia during the winter, be sure to pack some layers.

Spring and summer are the most popular times of the year to visit the city, so book your flights in the winter or autumn to save and experience a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying Perugia’s charm.

Perugia is one of Italy’s more affordable spots. Many attractions, like wandering the historic streets or visiting Piazza IV Novembre, don't cost a penny. Accommodation and food are generally cheaper than in Rome or Florence, especially if you choose family-run guesthouses and trattorias. Public transport and exploring on foot are the best ways to get around without digging into your spending money.

In Piazza IV November you’ll find several famous monuments, including Fontana Maggiore and the main Cathedral, San Lorenzo. Look out for the Renaissance frescos by Perugino and Raphael in Cappella di San Severo before heading to Pasticceria Sandri, a beautifully unique café which dates to 1860. At Rocca Paolina, discover Perugia’s fascinating underground city, following the original network of intact medieval streets. Above ground, take in spectacular sunset views from Giardini Carducci.

Perugia is full of delightful restaurants and family-run trattorias. Most use local produce such as olive oils, truffles, mushrooms, meats and goats’ cheese from the mountains. Look out for homemade strangozzi, a square-shaped spaghetti native to the region. Umbria also produces world-class wines so head to vineyards such as Tili Vini for exquisite wine tasting. If you have a sweet tooth, there are numerous gelaterias around town, or you can try Baci at Perugia’s famous chocolate factory.

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit Italy. UK passports must have at least three months' validity beyond the end of your visit.
