Begin with soaking up the views of Victoria Harbour and hop on a Star Ferry, between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. You will have to travel to Lantau Island to see the Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha). Other interesting attractions include Man Mo Temple on Hollywood Road and the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui. Discover the vibrant Temple Street Night Market in Jordan, make time for a day trip to play in Macau (the Vegas of the East) and stroll though the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery in Sha Tin. Venture up to Victoria Peak on a hike or by tram and soak up the views of Hong Kong’s famous skyline, away from the bustle of this diverse metropolis. Wander along the Tsim Sha Tsui’s waterfront promenade, step back in time at the traditional fishing village of Tai O and see the striking Kowloon Walled City – then ride the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to Lantau Island to see Big Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery.
Hong Kong is home to a sensational scene of galleries, museums, theatre spaces and contemporary art studios. From the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, with its variety of concerts and exhibitions, to the Chinese Opera House at Yau Ma Tei Theatre – there is plenty to experience. Explore the assortment of shopping districts, from the neighbourhoods of Central, SoHo, Causeway Bay, Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island – and Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok in Kowloon. There’s a variety of shopping, from malls to markets. Visit the Landmark for fashionista finds, discover shopping and entertainment at the City Plaza, then savour big brands and harbour views at the IFC Plaza. See another side to the city and make a trip to the Temple Street Night Market. When dusk falls, the market comes alive with fortune tellers, aromas of fried noodles and hawkers selling trinkets. Or head to the Ladies’ Market for bargain accessories, clothes and souvenirs along Tung Choi Street.
Whether you’re looking for authentic street food bites, or Michelin-star Hong Kong restaurant delights, there is an array of delicious dishes to try in Hong Kong. Relish sweet and sour dishes at the Luk Yu Teahouse in Central and try one of their brilliantly brewed teas. If you’d rather have dim-sum, Mott 32 is also located in Central; or you can try Tim Ho Wan at North Point. Head to the dai pai dongs (open-air food stalls) to try something new. From bite-size curry fish balls, stinky tofu and siu mai to eggettes – they serve plenty of Cantonese specialties. If you prefer, there are over 60 Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong to choose from.
