Making connections in Lahore

Pakistan’s second largest city, Lahore, is known for its bustling streets, vibrant bazaars and distinctive architecture. With direct flights now operating between the UK and Lahore, you can easily broaden your travel horizons – or conveniently visit friends or family.

Lahore is both a commercial and industrial centre, yet the city promises rich cultural experiences and remains relatively unexplored as a travel destination. As the traditional capital within Pakistan’s Punjab province, Lahore is awash with ornate mosques, historical museums and splendid gardens; and you’ll find architectural gems such as the Badshai Mosque, the Lahore Fort and gorgeous Shalimar Gardens inside the old city walls. You can also feast upon local cuisine, beginning with traditional halwa puri (flatbread with semolina) for breakfast before sampling fragrant dishes, such as chicken karahi and nihari, throughout the day. Book your direct flights to Lahore with British Airways and enjoy exceptional service before landing at Lahore’s international airport.

Our Lahore hints and tips will have you feeling like a local in no time.

Best time to go

The climate in Lahore is generally warm all year round. From May to September, the weather can be hot or rainy, which may be uncomfortable. You’ll experience cooler and drier conditions, since there is less precipitation, between the months of October and February.

What language do locals use?

Pakistan's national language is Urdu, although Punjabi is widely spoken across the region. Lahore is one of the largest Punjabi-speaking cities in the world, and many locals speak English here, too. However, learning a few Urdu phrases and basic greetings might help you feel more at ease.

Visiting Badshahi Mosque

Built in the Mughal era, the Badshahi Mosque is one Lahore’s most iconic landmarks. Spend time admiring intricate domes and minarets, or marvel at the ornate interiors of the impressive structure. Non-Muslims can visit during non-prayer hours – when you visit you must be respectful of local customs and observe a modest dress code.
