Stuttgart airport lies 8 miles (13 kilometres) south of the city. It is connected to central Stuttgart by the S Bahn rail line, which takes less than 30 minutes to reach the city’s central station. Public transport links within Stuttgart are excellent. The city’s network includes not just the Stadtbahn light railway system, but also an unusual rack railway designed to scale Stuttgart’s hills.
Stuttgart’s airport may be compact, but its shops and restaurants are very good. Its Top Air restaurant is one of the few airport restaurants to earn a Michelin star, while beyond security control, its Pasta and Seafood Trattoria sells good Italian cooking with runway views. Extensive duty free shopping is on offer in the departure lounge.
