Three long-haul flight tips for San Diego

Travelling can be very tiring, but there are a few simple things you do to ensure you arrive feeling as well as is possible.

  1. It can help you to beat jet lag if you adjust to your new time zone as soon as you board the plane. Set you watch to California time when you embark. Also, use our handy jet lag calculator to calculate the best times to sleep, wake and rest.
  2. Hydration is crucial for feeling your best on board and when you land in your destination. Drink plenty of water beforehand and throughout the flight. Limiting your alcohol and caffeine intake during the flight and before it will help too, and could help you sleep better.
  3. Limber up while on the flight with some simple stretching exercises to keep blood flowing. The slowing of blood circulation is one of the most common side-effects of jet lag. Check out our wellbeing pages in High Life magazine in your seat pocket too for more great tips.

Getting around

Hire a car or take cabs (there are several taxi apps and pre-book cab companies including the San Diego Cab Company and Orange Cab San Diego). There are also buses and rapid trains.

Free attractions

Hike the trail in Balboa Park where you can listen to a free outdoor concert, people watch on the three-mile boardwalk between Mission and Pacific beaches, or see art for free at the Museum of Modern Art San Diego, the third Thursday of every month.
