A striking capital city reborn

Fly to Warsaw with British Airways to begin a memorable break in Poland.

Warsaw’s Old Town has been carefully reconstructed following large-scale damage during World War Two and is once again a photogenic spot to explore. Wander the time-stamped streets, admire the colourful buildings around the market square and learn about the city’s past in the Historical Museum of Warsaw.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, embrace big city living with some bar-hopping and shopping as you explore the Neoclassical streets of the New Town district. Then retreat to the tranquil green open space of Lazienki Park. As well as being home to swans and peacocks that wander freely, this former country estate has enchanting palaces, a tree-lined lake and the Chopin Garden, where you can enjoy free Chopin performances during summer weekends. You’ll find great value flights to Warsaw all year round, although prices are often cheaper outside of the busy summer months of July and August. You can use our low fare finder to find the cheapest month to fly to Warsaw.

Warsaw is known as one of the cheapest European capitals to visit. This budget-friendly destination doesn’t charge a tourist tax, and you'll find a range of low-cost hotels, restaurants, bars and attractions.

You can make your Polish zloty go further when you take advantage of the city’s free attractions, such as the colourful light and fountain show at Warsaw’s Multimedia Fountain Park. Take a walk along the banks of the Vistula, where you can catch a free ferry from its promenade in the summertime.

Many of the city’s palaces are also free to enter if you visit in November – when you can also make the most of the Christmas market later in the month.

Warsaw’s airport is around 10 kilometres from the city centre so it’s a straightforward journey by pre-booked transfer or taxi.

There are also buses and trains from the terminal, taking 25 to 30 minutes to reach the city centre. For getting around Warsaw and its main attractions, you may find you can manage it all on foot. However, a reliable public transport system, complete with buses, trams, subway trains and local SKM trains, means there are plenty of options for getting out and about.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Warsaw has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

An attractive city full of contrasts and surprises, from mermaid statues to unexpected artwork on buses and trams, Warsaw often flies under-the-radar. However, you’ll find one of the most impressive theatres in Eastern Europe here in the form of the 19th-century Grand Theatre, where you can catch a performance by the Polish National Opera or Ballet.

You’ll also find a hidden gem on the roof of Warsaw University Library. The rooftop has been transformed into a vast garden with ponds, a fountain and sculptures – and you can enjoy some of the best panoramic views over the city during the summer.

Visit during winter months when the frosty weather and the Old Town’s traditional good looks set the scene for the annual Christmas market, complete with an outdoor ice rink.
