St. Louis flight FAQs

A flight from London to St. Louis takes approximately eight hours.

British Airways operates direct flights to St. Louis Lambert International Airport from London Heathrow.

Summer is the most popular time to visit St. Louis, so if you're looking to save on flights, consider travelling outside peak season. September brings cooler autumn weather, making it ideal for exploring the city's vibrant neighbourhoods, top attractions and parks, all while enjoying lower travel costs. Use our low fare finder to find the cheapest time to visit St. Louis.

St. Louis is a year-round destination, but spring and autumn are ideal for outdoor adventures thanks to mild weather and the ‘Show Me’ state’s photo-ready natural scenery. Summer brings warm, sunny days, perfect for exploring the parks and riverside trails.

The winter sees temperatures drop, but the festive spirit begins to heat up. Mardi Gras season kicks off in January and runs through to March, depending on the date of Easter. The highlight is the spectacular Grand Parade, held in the Soulard district every year on ‘Fat Tuesday’, the day before Ash Wednesday.

St. Louis is an excellent destination if you’re travelling on a budget, with more free attractions than almost any other city in the US. Many of these are in Forest Park, the city’s cultural heart. Here you can explore the Saint Louis Art Museum, home to over 35,000 works, and the St. Louis Science Center, featuring the largest planetarium in the Western H

emisphere. You’ll also find plenty of well-priced diners and neighbourhood smokehouses serving generous portions of St. Louis-style ribs and gooey butter cake. Head to The Hill, famous for its Italian heritage, to try another local favourite, toasted ravioli.

Getting around St. Louis is easy and affordable. The MetroLink light rail runs directly from St. Louis Lambert International Airport to Union Station in the city centre, a journey of around 35 minutes.

Once you've arrived, the Metro is also a convenient way to hop between major attractions. Taxis are available outside most central hotels, and ride-hailing apps operate throughout the city.

For a more scenic option, explore St. Louis by bike. There are plenty of trails around the city and Forest Park. Rental shops like the Forest Park Boathouse offer bikes, paddle boats, boards and canoes, perfect for a moonlight picnic or even a paddleboard yoga session.

If you're dreaming of a classic American road trip, St. Louis is a great place to pick up Route 66, the legendary highway that stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles. Hit the road and stop at retro diners or catch a movie under the stars at the historic 66 Drive-In Theatre in Carthage.

Embark on a river cruise down the Mississippi and take in the landscapes that inspired Mark Twain’s tales about Huckleberry Finn. Head north to Hannibal to explore the author’s childhood home, or venture southwest into the great wide open of the Ozarks. Table Rock and Lake of the Ozark, two of the state’s largest lakes, are both havens for camping, canoeing, and swimming. Or head west to Kansas City, renowned for its jazz clubs and unofficial status as the ‘Barbecue Capital of the World’.
