Newcastle flight FAQs

A flight from London to Newcastle International airport takes approximately one hour.

Newcastle is an affordable destination to visit all year round, but it’s worth remembering that the summer months tend to be the most popular time to visit the city. This is when the weather is at its best for visiting the north-east coast and enjoying the beaches. Use our low fare finder to find the cheapest time to visit Newcastle.

Newcastle is known for being much more affordable than some of the UK’s other big cities, so it’s a great destination to enjoy on a budget. You’ll find it very easy to explore on foot, and many of the city’s museums are free to visit.

If you’re around during a weekend, pay a visit to the outdoor Quayside Market, which takes place every Sunday. It features independent traders from all over the region selling handcrafted goods and local products, and it’s a great place to pick up reasonably priced street food and souvenirs.

Newcastle International Airport is located just under 10 miles northwest of the city centre. It’s well connected to local public transport, including bus, metro and train services. You can also take a taxi from in front of the terminal.

The city itself is very compact, making it easy to move between all the attractions. The Tyne and Wear Metro system is an ideal way to get around all the major landmarks and sights in Newcastle and neighbouring Gateshead, as well as travelling to the coast. It takes just 30 minutes to get to Tyneside from the city centre.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to get out of the city and see more of what Newcastle and what the surrounding area has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Newcastle is a city that combines legendary nightlife with world-class attractions and historical highlights. Go beneath ground for a walking tour through the Victoria Tunnels, originally used to transport coal across Newcastle in the 1800s, or pay a visit to Newcastle’s castle, which once guarded the city from invaders. To make the most of the nearby countryside, head a few miles east and you’ll be able to experience North Tyneside’s rugged coastline, with Northumberland and County Durham right on the city’s doorstep.
