You’ll find greater value for money in Puglia than other popular regions of Italy. There’s great food to enjoy at every turn so you can pick up fresh local dishes like panzerotti, focaccia and sweet pasticciotto for much less than you’d expect. For the freshest seafood around, head to the early morning fish market in the old port. If you’re stopping for a morning coffee, drink yours at the bar like a local and you’ll be charged less than you would if you took a seat at a table.
If your trip coincides with the first Sunday of the month, you’ll find entry is free to most museums in Bari, so you can soak up the city’s rich history and save your euros for an evening gelato.
Bari Airport isn’t far from the city centre and it’s connected to it by a commuter rail service that takes around 17 minutes. There are also a number of bus services from the airport which take 30 minutes to reach Bari. A pricier option is to take a taxi – they're readily available 24 hours a day from right outside arrivals.
You can easily walk around central Bari to reach the main attractions, but if you’re heading further afield or exploring the nearby beaches, you may wish to travel by taxi.
You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Bari has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.
As the gateway to Puglia, Bari is the perfect base for a relaxed trip exploring this famously photogenic region. This under-the-radar destination has a slower pace of life – and combined with fresh seafood, pasta and great local wine, you can enjoy an authentic taste of southern Italy here.
Puglia’s average of 300 sunny days a year means you’ll be able to take advantage of the many beaches near Bari. Or, head south to Monopoli to enjoy the calm, clear and sparkling water of Cala Verde beach.
