We are proud to partner with Union Hand-Roasted Coffee, an award-winning coffee producer and roaster based in East-London. Union introduced an exclusive speciality coffee to our business (Club World) and First cabins, plus all our UK lounges. The unique blend of coffee has been specially developed and designed for our customers to enjoy at altitude and on the ground.
Union Hand-Roasted Coffee
We identified coffee as an important area for improvement and set out to create a unique coffee experience for our customers with a carefully selected coffee provider. Union’s artisan blends and socially-responsible practices have won them several Best Coffee Roasters at the European Coffee Awards as well as The Queen’s Award for sustainability.
After numerous taste tests and collaboration with Union, we landed on an exclusive high quality Arabica blend with a sweet, chocolatey flavour profile. To achieve this Union specifically selected farms from south and central America, which are known for being able to demonstrate these flavour characteristics.
Grown by smallholder farmers on the fertile lands of Machu Picchu, this speciality coffee is produced in partnership with farmers to improve both coffee quality and livelihoods, long term.
Flavour and taste perceptions change at altitude, so our experienced baristas went on test flights to do tastings. As a result, we roast the coffee we serve on board to very specific flavour profiles and use a slightly different coffee in the lounges. - Founder Steven Macatonia, co-founder of Union Hand-Roasted Coffee.
In the air
In the air the sensation of bitterness is heightened, due to this unique cabin environment and change in taste, Union have altered the roasting style of the coffee and a special blend has been exclusively developed for our Club World and First cabins.
In the lounge
In the lounges a different roast profile has been developed to present a consistent, high quality Arabica coffee with a sweet, chocolatey flavour profile for customers to enjoy across all UK regional lounges.
