The new British Airways Self-Service Bag Drop machines are now available at London Heathrow. With less queuing and a faster check in, welcome to a smoother journey through Terminal 5.

Let’s be honest. When it comes to your experience at the airport, the less time spent queuing, hauling your suitcase around and checking in the better. And that’s where our new Self-Service Bag Drop machines come in. By using one before your flight from London Heathrow, you can avoid the queues and enjoy a faster, smoother journey through the airport.

The faster way to be ‘travel ready’ at the airport

The new Self-Service Bag Drop machines are now available to use in Zones C and D of the Departures area at Terminal 5. And the process couldn’t be easier. Simply check in and access your boarding pass via the British Airways mobile app or on before you arrive at the airport and, once there, head straight to the Self-Service Bag Drop area to check in your bags.

Self-Service Bag drop and go

At the Self-Service Bag Drop, you’ll be welcomed by the British Airways team and invited to simply place your bag on the belt to start. You’ll then be prompted to scan your mobile or home printed boarding pass and follow an easy, fast process to check in your bags.

Your bag tag will have all of the requisite heavy, priority and connections tags automatically printed on them and you will get a paper receipt at the end of the transaction. And don’t worry if you have any problems, a member of British Airways staff will be happy to assist at any time if you need it.

Once you’ve checked in and gone through security, you’ll have extra time to shop, enjoy a drink in the lounge, catch up on your emails or just relax with a good book before your flight.

Please remember:

  • Check in and self-service bag drops close 60 minutes before all longhaul flights scheduled departure and 45 minutes before all shorthaul flights scheduled departure time.
  • Go through security at least 35 minutes before your flight departs.
  • Be at the boarding gate at least 20 minutes before your flight departs.

Tried and tested

The Self Service Bag drop machines aren’t just available for those travelling from Heathrow Terminal 5. In fact they're also available at London Gatwick too. You’ll find them when you depart with British Airways from the airport’s South Terminal, along with our brand new Club and First lounges with expansive views of the airport.

Quality time

It’s little wonder Heathrow Terminal 5 was voted World’s Best Airport Terminal by Skytrax for four years’ running: it’s full of ways to enjoy your time before your flight. And with faster check in and less stress by using the Self Service Bag Drop, you really can take advantage.

The shopping is top notch for holiday essentials – and non-essentials – with huge choice of stores including designer brands like Burberry, Chanel and Gucci and high street names like Accessorize, Cath Kidston and Reiss. And of course you can pick up any forgotten holiday must-haves at shops like Boots, WHSmith and Dixons.
