Cabin upgrades

Upgrade offers at the airport are subject to availability on the day of travel and are offered on a first come first served basis.

To check if an upgrade is available on your flight, please speak to a member of British Airways staff at the airport who can advise you of the current availability and price.

Terms and Conditions

Availability for this offer may be very limited. If you come back later, the price may have changed or the offer may have sold out.

  1. These Terms and Conditions apply to promotional upgrades only. Promotional upgrades are available to customers who have booked a qualifying flight in the Euro Traveller (economy), World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy) or Club World (business) cabins. A qualifying flight is a one-way or return flight on services operated by British Airways, BA Euroflyer and BA CityFlyer (but not on flights operated wholly or partly by its franchisees/codeshare partners/oneworld® alliance members).
  2. Promotional upgrades are always subject to availability. They are only available on routes and aircraft offering a higher cabin (Club Europe (business), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), Club World (business) or First).
  3. You can upgrade on ba.com (via Manage My Booking) or for selected flights and ticket types, on the day of departure at the airport by contacting British Airways staff at check-in. British Airways accepts no liability if you’re unable to take up the offer due to technical reasons or if upgrade seats in the higher cabin are not available on a given time or date, even though seats may still be available at a different fare or booking class in the same cabin.
  4. Infants may be charged 10% of the upgrade price plus any tax difference. Promotional upgrades are not available to children up to 18 years who are travelling as unaccompanied minors.
  5. Promotional upgrades may be subject to additional tax charges which may vary dependent on cabin and age of the passenger and are indicated in the price.
  6. Checked baggage allowance and lounge access are in accordance with the upgraded cabin entitlement and apply to the upgraded part of your journey only. Any additional baggage purchased before upgrading keeps its original weight allowance and is subject to a full refund if no longer needed after the cabin upgrade.
  7. If you paid to reserve a specific seat in your original cabin, you will need to pay any difference in price if you wish to reserve a specific seat in the upgraded cabin. If you do not wish to pay the difference to select your seat in the upgraded cabin, you can apply for the refund on the prepaid seat.
  8. Members of the British Airways Executive Club are eligible for Avios and Tier Points associated with the higher cabin. If these are not credited at the time of the flight you can claim them retrospectively within six months, once you have completed your journey. If you purchase a promotional upgrade from a redemption ticket, you are not eligible for Tier Points in either the original or upgraded cabin. Any promotional upgrades purchased from 18 October 2023 will earn Avios based on the cost of the upgrade.
  9. The original fare rules applicable to your original booking apply to the upgraded ticket.
  10. Promotional upgrades purchased online cannot be refunded in isolation and can only be refunded if the entire booking is cancelled. Promotional upgrades purchased at the airport are non-refundable. Refunds may be subject to fees in accordance with the relevant fare rules. To see how to apply for a refund for your particular upgrade (whether online or via one of our contact centres), please access Manage My Booking.
  11. Promotional upgrades apply to a specific flight booking only and are non-transferable. If you voluntarily change your scheduled flight after purchasing a promotional upgrade, you will not be able to transfer the upgrade across to the revised scheduled flight. If the original fare rules state that the flight is changeable for a fee in addition to any fare difference, you would revert to your original cabin for travel but the price paid for the upgrade will count towards any fare difference due. If you wish to obtain an upgrade on your revised scheduled flight, where available, you will be required to pay for the upgrade at the price at that time.
  12. If your flight is cancelled and re-booked either on British Airways or another carrier, we will attempt to accommodate you in the cabin you have upgraded to, subject to availability. If the same cabin is not available, we will refund the upgrade price and you will travel in the cabin purchased on your original ticket.
  13. If the aircraft has to be substituted for one which does not have a higher cabin, you will travel in the cabin purchased on your original ticket and receive a refund of the upgrade price.
  14. All passengers are carried by British Airways in accordance with its General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage and the fare rules applicable to each ticket.
  15. British Airways reserves the right to cancel or amend any or all of the Terms and Conditions of this promotion, without notice, in the event of a major catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, earthquake or any actual anticipated or alleged breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other similar event outside the reasonable control of British Airways.
  16. British Airways is in no way liable for the reproduction or indirect access via any third party website or homepage access which reproduction misstates or omits any of the information or Terms and Conditions of this promotion.
