Launching 1 April 2025

The world has changed since we first launched our loyalty programme over 40 years ago and so have the people who travel it.

As your needs and reasons for travelling have continued to evolve, we're changing the way we support and recognise your loyalty.

So, from April 2025, we're delighted to welcome you to The British Airways Club. A Club designed to give you more opportunities to unlock rewards.

We’re evolving our rewards to match the way you love to travel – bringing exciting new ways to earn and progress through the Tiers, and around the globe.

Here’s everything you can expect as a very valued member of our new Club.

Loyalty rewarded

The new Tier Point collection year begins 1 April 2025, which will also mark the launch of The British Airways Club.

From this date, Members will have new ways to earn their Tier Status. You’ll collect 1 Tier Point for every £1 of eligible spend* with British Airways. Plus, you’ll earn Tier Points for more than just your flights – if you book a British Airways Holidays package, add an extra bag or pay to choose a seat, you’ll earn Tier Points then too.

As we change the way you earn Tier Points, our Tier thresholds will be updated too:

Tier Tier Point threshold
Blue None
Bronze 3,500
Silver 7,500
Gold 20,000

And, as Tier Points will be calculated differently, we’ll be recalculating your Lifetime Tier Point balance to make sure the points you’ve already collected go as far as they did before.

If you’ve already booked a flight beyond 1 April 2025 your Tier Points will be awarded based on a conversion of the existing method. This means any bookings you’ve already made will earn proportionally the same number of Tier Points as today.

*You'll earn Tier Points on your fare and any carrier imposed charges the airline may add. Non-airline taxes and fees, such as airport charges and government taxes, don’t earn Tier Points.

New ways to earn Tier Status

Earn on flights

You'll still earn Tier Points on every eligible flight. Only now, your Tier Points will be based on the price of your flight, rather than the distance you fly. We believe it’s a simpler way to reward your loyalty. See examples of how you'll earn Tier Points.

Earn with American Express®

In 2025, British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Cardmembers will be able to earn up to 2,500 Tier Points by spending on their card. More details of this offer will be announced closer to the launch date.

Earn with British Airways Holidays

From April, book a holiday package with British Airways Holidays and you’ll earn Tier Points on the total cost of your getaway – not just the flights.

Earn on bags

Next time you need to add an extra bag for those bulky ski clothes or the toys your children can't leave behind, you'll add to your Tier Points too.

Earn on seats

Like to be in the window seat? When you pre-pay for your preferred seat, you'll earn Tier Points for every £1 you spend.

Earn with Sustainable Aviation Fuels ('SAF'*) contributions

You’ll also earn Tier Points and collect Avios when you contribute towards Sustainable Aviation Fuels. You can even use your Avios balance to buy SAF.

*'Sustainable Aviation Fuels’ (‘SAF’) are defined in the Refuel EU Aviation Regulation as aviation fuels that are either synthetic aviation fuels, aviation biofuels or recycled carbon aviation fuels. For further information, please visit BA Better World.

What else is changing?

Even more milestones

There’s nothing like finding out you’ve moved up a Tier and discovering the new benefits it brings. We want to create more of these moments across 2025 and beyond, so we’re adding some additional milestones between each Tier, starting with bonus Avios.

Savings at The Wine Flyer

Your Tier Status will now give you savings on delicious wines at The Wine Flyer. The amount you save depends on your current Tier Status, starting from 5% for Bronze Members and increasing with every Tier.

A fresh look and feel

We’re simplifying our name to reflect the breadth of reasons people travel today.

We’re also introducing a new logo for the Club inspired by Great Circle flight paths (curved, not straight), and formed by all the flights our customers make.

Celebrate with us - and earn bonus Tier Points

Booking for travel after 1 April? You’ll earn Tier Points under our new collection system on eligible bookings with British Airways, whether you book with us, our partners, or British Airways Holidays (where available).

Plus, as an exclusive introductory offer, you can enjoy bonus Tier Points on top of the Tier Points you usually earn on all eligible flights with British Airways. And this is really just the beginning.

We have so much more to show and many more rewards to share. If you have any questions right now, we’ve delved a little deeper in our FAQs about the changes.

Welcome to The British Airways Club, changing to move with modern travel – and you, the modern traveller. We can’t wait to see where it takes us all.

General FAQs

We launched our first loyalty programme more than 40 years ago and we’ve evolved it significantly in that time. The way our customers travel has changed, and we’re changing too.

Not only are we introducing more ways than ever to earn Tier Points, but the new way of earning will make it simpler for you to work out how many you can expect.

We continue to seek ways to make our loyalty programme as rewarding as possible and we look forward to bringing our Members on our journey’s next chapter.

You can enjoy some of the benefits right away, such as your new discount at The Wine Flyer and our introductory offer of bonus Tier Points on all eligible bookings.

Then, from 1 April 2025, you’ll begin to earn Tier Points based on our new system and your Tier thresholds will change. You’ll then be able to earn Tier Points with Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF*) contributions and bookings with British Airways Holidays.

Later in 2025, we’ll launch exciting Tier milestones, such as bonus Avios.

*‘Sustainable Aviation Fuels’ (‘SAF’) are defined in the Refuel EU Aviation Regulation as aviation fuels that are either synthetic aviation fuels, aviation biofuels or recycled carbon aviation fuels. For further information, please visit BA Better World.

Earning Tier Points

We’re making some changes to the way Members earn Tier Points. These changes were announced on 30 December 2024 and affect the way you earn Tier Points for flights and British Airways Holidays package bookings.

From 1 April 2025, Club Members will no longer collect Tier Points based on distance travelled. Instead, Tier Points will be based on total eligible spend for your flight tickets, any qualifying add-ons, and holiday package bookings.

When you book a flight, eligible spend includes the base fare and the Carrier Imposed Charges (YQ and YR), but not the non-airline taxes and fees. You can find the price breakdown of your ticket on the “Flight Summary” page before confirming your booking or on the booking confirmation email (e-ticket receipt).

When you book a British Airways Holidays package or buy any eligible add-ons (seat selection, additional baggage or cabin upgrades) your eligible spend will be the full amount spent.

Any flights booked on or after 30 December for travel from 1 April 2025 will earn Tier Points based on total eligible spend.

Tier Points will be based on total eligible spend. You'll also earn Tier Points for any qualifying add-ons as part of your trip from this date.

We’ll award 1 Tier Point for 1 pound (£) spent on:

  • The base fare on any commercial British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia marketed flights
  • The Carrier Imposed Charges (YQ and YR) on any commercial British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia marketed flights
  • Cabin upgrades made online or at the airport on any British Airways marketed and operated flights
  • Additional baggage pre-purchased online, through our Contact Centres or at the airport on any British Airways or Iberia marketed and operated flights
  • Pre-paid seating charges on any British Airways or Iberia marketed and operated flights

Yes. Club Members will continue to earn Tier Points on British Airways Holidays “Flight + Hotel” and “Flight + Car” bookings.

We’re also removing the minimum stay requirement, so more of your holidays can count towards your Tier Point balance.

For holidays with a travel date from 1 April 2025, you’ll earn 1 Tier Point per pound (£) spent on the total price of your holiday package. Tier Points will be evenly split between the number of people on the booking. All passengers who have added a British Airways Club number will receive their Tier Points after the trip is complete. Infants under two can’t earn Tier Points on a British Airways Holidays package.

This replaces the Tier Points Members collect against individual flights taken as part of a British Airways Holidays package booking, as well as any bonuses unless otherwise specified.

The lead booker will continue to receive 1 bonus Avios for every pound (£) spent based on the full value of the holiday package, and each member of the travel party will continue to collect Avios for the individual flights taken.

Here’s an example:

  • You make a Flight + Hotel booking for 2 people with a total price of £1,000
  • Each traveller would be eligible to earn 500 Tier Points after their trip
  • Each traveller would also collect Avios for each eligible flight they take as part of their booking
  • The person who makes the booking would also receive 1,000 bonus Avios

You must book through the Flight + Hotel or Flight + Car option and add the individual British Airways Club number for each Member prior to travel to earn Tier Points for your British Airways Holidays package.

Like today, you can only earn Tier Points for flights you take yourself.

For British Airways Holidays package bookings, Tier Points will be evenly split between the number of people on the booking and awarded after the trip is complete.

The total eligible spend will be converted to GBP using the IATA 5-day exchange rate. This is calculated using either the ticket issue date or when the add-on was purchased. Your Tier Points will be calculated using this converted amount.

The total eligible spend for British Airways Holidays package bookings made in another currency will be converted to GBP using the OANDA rate of exchange, calculated on the date the booking was made.

Go to Manage my Booking on ba.com and check how many Tier Points your booking will earn for all travel before 1 April 2025.

For travel after 1 April 2025, see our Tier Point examples to understand how many Tier Points you’ll earn for flights marketed by British Airways, American Airlines or Iberia.

Or visit our Collecting Avios on Flights page to see how many you’ll earn with oneworld or other partner airlines.

Club Members will earn Tier Points for the segments they fly themselves, regardless of who bought the ticket.

For British Airways Holidays packages with a travel date from 1 April 2025, you'll earn 1 Tier Point per pound (£) spent based on the total price of your holiday.

Tier Points will be evenly split between the number of people on the booking, and members of the travel party who have added a British Airways Club number will receive their Tier Points after they've completed their trip.

The same as today, up to three days after the flight or eligible add-on has been used. Air partners can take up to seven days to credit.

Tier Points earned from a British Airways Holidays package take 14 days, after you’ve completed your trip, to credit.

From 1 April 2025, Members will be able to earn Tier Points on:

  • Flights
  • Qualifying add-ons
  • British Airways Holidays package bookings
  • Contributions to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF*)
Also in 2025, British Airways American Express Premium Plus Cardmembers will be able to earn up to 2,500 Tier Points by spending on their card. More details of this offer will be announced closer to the launch date.

We’ll also continue to explore further opportunities for you to earn Tier Points.

In 2025, British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Cardmembers will be able to earn up to 2,500 Tier Points by spending on their card.

More details of this offer will be announced closer to the launch date.

You’ll be able to earn up to 1,000 Tier Points per Tier Point collection year, starting 1 April 2025. You’ll earn 1 Tier Point and 10 Avios per pound (£) spent.

To do this, you’ll need to visit our dedicated platform, powered by our partner chooose, which will be available from 1 April 2025.

Your contribution to Sustainable Aviation Fuels (‘SAF’) supports the purchase of quantities of SAF, which count towards our voluntary SAF commitments and enables SAF usage beyond the UK government’s SAF mandate.

‘Sustainable Aviation Fuels’ (‘SAF’) are defined in the Refuel EU Aviation Regulation  as aviation fuels that are either synthetic aviation fuels, aviation biofuels or recycled carbon aviation fuels. For further information, please visit BA Better World.

Tier Status

Any flights booked on or after 30 December for travel from 1 April 2025 will earn Tier Points based on total eligible spend. The number of Tier Points needed to move between Tier levels is also being updated to reflect these changes.

Tier Point thresholds from 1 April 2025:

  • Blue: No Tier Point requirement
  • Bronze: 3,500 Tier Points
  • Silver: 7,500 Tier Points
  • Gold: 20,000 Tier Points

No. All Members receive 1 Tier Point per qualifying pound (£) spent for flights and qualifying add-ons marketed by British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia.

No. From 1 April 2025, there will no longer be a need to take a certain number of flights in addition to the Tier Points needed to move between Tier levels.

For Tier Point collection periods up to 31 March 2025, you still need to take a minimum number of eligible flights on top of the Tier Points needed to move between Tiers.

You can find more information on our Tier Point pages.

From 1 April 2025 we’re changing the way Tier Points are earned and introducing more ways to earn them.

Earning the required number of Tier Points between 1 April and 31 March each year will be the only way to move between Tier levels.

From 1 April 2025, your account will allow you to track your progress towards the next Tier or renewing your Membership.

Lifetime Tier Points

From 1 April 2025 the way Members earn Tier Points is changing and the number of Lifetime Tier Points needed to reach the Lifetime Tiers is also being updated to reflect this.

Lifetime Tier thresholds from 1 April 2025:

  • Gold for Life: 550,000 Lifetime Tier Points

Yes, Lifetime Tier Point balances will be adjusted to reflect the changes to how Tier Points are earned from 1 April 2025 and the new Lifetime thresholds.

Your proportional progress towards the next Lifetime threshold will be carried over. For instance, if you’ve collected 50% of the Lifetime Tier Points required for Gold for Life, your new balance will equal 50% of the new threshold. You can work out your new balance by multiplying your balance on 31 March 2025 by 15.71.

For example:

  • Current balance – 17,500 Lifetime Tier Points
  • This will be converted to – 275,000 Lifetime Tier Points

Or, if you're already a Gold for Life Member, your Lifetime Tier Points balance will be proportionally transferred, or set to at least 550,000 Lifetime Tier Points, whichever is higher. You can work out your new balance by multiplying your balance on 31 March 2025 by 15. If the result is less than 550,000 Lifetime Tier Points, it will be increased to 550,000 Lifetime Tier Points.

Here’s an example:

  • Current balance – 50,000 Lifetime Tier Points
  • This will be converted to – 750,000 Lifetime Tier Points

From 1 April 2025 all the new ways Members can earn Tier Points will count towards your Lifetime Tier Point balance.

This means you'll be able to earn Lifetime Tier Points on:

  • Flights
  • Qualifying add-ons
  • British Airways Holidays package bookings
  • Buying contributions to Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF*)
  • Tier Points earned from spend on the British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card

For flights booked before 13:00 GMT 30 December 2024 for travel from 1 April 2025, that are marketed by British Airways, American Airlines or Iberia, Tier Points will be awarded based on a conversion of the existing method. This means any bookings you’ve already made will earn proportionally the same number of Tier Points, or more, as today.
