Reward flight calculator

Use this calculator to work out how many Avios you need for a reward flight with:

  • British Airways (direct flights and flights with one stop or connection, e.g. Edinburgh-Miami).
  • Partner airlines (direct flights only, e.g. Houston-Chicago on American Airlines).

To work out the cost of a return flight or a more complicated journey, search for each flight separately and add the prices together.

  • Peak versus off-peak

For reward flights on British Airways and Iberia, you’ll see two prices – one for peak days and one for off-peak days. Approximately two thirds of the year is off-peak.

You can choose to travel on all peak dates, all off-peak dates, or a mixture of the two. The taxes, fees and carrier charges you pay are the same for both peak and off-peak dates.

  • Connecting journeys

This calculator gives priority to direct flights or flights with one stop. Your chosen destination may have connections available. To find all available options, use our search and book tool.

Prices shown for connecting journeys assume that either both flights are on peak days or both are on off-peak days. It's possible that when you book, one flight will be on a peak day and one on an off-peak day, in which case the price will vary accordingly.

  • Reward Flight Saver

Some prices may show two different cash amounts. If you have collected any Avios in the past 12 months you qualify for the lower one indicated by this symbol – we call them Reward Flight Savers. If you qualify, you’ll be offered these prices automatically when you search and book a reward flight.

    How does it work?

On a standard reward flight, in addition to the Avios, you pay the taxes, fees and carrier charges. But with a Reward Flight Saver, you pay a lower flat fee instead.

It's available on British Airways flights throughout Europe and some other shorter routes, and on Comair flights in southern Africa. Use the calculator to check a specific route.

When you're booking your flights, if you're not eligible for Reward Flight Saver, you won't see this symbol and will pay the taxes, fees and carrier charges instead.

Our current Reward Flight Saver fees are:

    • Economy – £35/€42 return on British Airways and £80/ZAR1000 on Comair.
    • Business – £50/€60 return on British Airways and £140/ZAR1800 on Comair.
  • Seasonal and infrequent routes

The calculator finds prices based on today's schedule. If a route isn’t operating today, either because it’s out-of-season or not a daily frequency, we won’t be able to display the cost of this route. Please use the search and book tool to get a quote for these routes.

  • Booking with multiple partner airlines

Prices are calculated differently for flights with two or more oneworld airlines, or British Airways plus two or more oneworld partner airlines. For these journeys, use this table instead of the calculator:
