You’ll want to jet off to Tenerife right away – it’s got perfect temperature all year-round – so much so that it’s called the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’. It’s perfect for that special family holiday or luxury beach break. And with more available flights to the Atlantic island with British Airways, this balmy tourist spot just got even hotter.
Those black and gold beaches are closer than you think; you can fly to Tenerife from London in under five hours.
Book your flights with British Airways to start your perfect Tenerife holiday. It’s only a couple of hours’ drive across, but it’s possible to cram a lot into this little island. With its brooding volcano and voluptuous topography Tenerife is a unique destination for the adventurous. But its good food and generous helping of beaches make it a great place to be lazy, too. Our generous luggage allowance means you can pack both your hiking boots and your pool float.
British Airways operates regular flights from London Gatwick (LGW) to Tenerife (TFS), and you can also fly once a week, on Saturdays, from London Heathrow (LHR).
No matter which London airport you choose, your flight will take around four and a half hours. We fly direct to Tenerife all year around.
British Airways flights arrive into Tenerife South Airport, which is found near the main tourist area of the island. From here you can reach your resort in a matter of minutes.

The cheapest time to fly to Tenerife is usually November, or March and April. These are the shoulder seasons for the island. In the coldest months, between December and February, tourists flock to the island seeking winter sun, and the island gets particularly busy for carnival in February. In summer, many families use the long school holidays to embark on a package trip and the island’s resorts get busy again. Tenerife’s lovely, warm year-round temperatures mean that holidaying out of peak season is just as good – if not better – than arriving with the summer and winter crowds.
Tenerife South Airport (TFS) is just ten minutes’ drive from the famous Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje on the south coast of the island, and 63km south of the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Arrange a taxi from the main airport arrivals concourse or book a transfer. Alternatively, book a hire car with British Airways, in partnership with Avis, and pick up your wheels at the airport. Bus 711 links the airport to Santa Cruz and Costa Adeje and runs through the night.
If you are travelling on a European Union passport, then you currently do not need a visa to visit Tenerife. Tenerife is recognised as Spanish territory, and therefore travel restrictions are the same as they are on mainland Spain.
British Airways flights offer a generous baggage allowance to its customers. If you’re travelling in economy (Euro Traveller), you can check in one 23 kg bag each.
Business (Club Europe) travellers can check in two 32 kg bags each.
Families travelling in either cabin with young children can also check in one collapsible push chair and one car seat.

Our Tenerife hints and tips will have you feeling like a local in no time
A tip is always appreciated. But in Tenerife tipping isn’t mandatory, or even always expected. A 10% tip on your restaurant bill or bar tab is perfectly acceptable.
Tenerife is nice to visit all year round – though it’s cooler and wetter from November to March. There are microclimates in the mountains, where the weather can change from hour to hour. The south of Tenerife is said to have more settled weather – at least according to the people who live there. People who live in the north will protest that their weather is often just as nice.
Aside from the beach? Well, it’s free to wander around Tenerife’s traditional Canarian towns. La Laguna is a UNESCO World Heritage site and, until 1723, it was actually the island’s capital. Look out for the vestiges of its former grandeur: old wooden balconies, lush courtyards and fine churches from the 16th, 17th and 18th century.
Book in to a lovely five-star hotel with sparkling Atlantic views. Recently-renovated Melia Jardines del Teide is near to the popular upmarket Playa del Duque Beach and has an enormous pool.Book a stay
There’s nothing like sharing plates of carefully-prepared tapas to get you in holiday mode. Make sure you order the local specialties if you find yourself in a Spanish restaurant (or even on a ruta de tapa – a ‘tapas crawl’ around the town’s best bars): papas arrugadas and Spanish omelette should be easy to find. You should also look out for garlic-spiked seafood – especially sardines during June.
Explore Mount Teide National Park. It takes just eight minutes for a cable car to whisk travellers to La Rambleta, a station just below the snow-scattered volcanic summit of Mount Teide. You’re so high up here that you will feel the effects of the changed altitude as you walk, so take it easy as you walk. Take a trail away from the cable car for views all to yourself.
