Hearlo communication app
At British Airways, we believe every customer deserves a great experience when they fly. That means removing communication barriers to enable a seamless journey. We’ve teamed up with Hearlo, a free mobile app designed for anyone facing communication and cognitive challenges, so they can travel with confidence. Hearlo is also known as Hablalo.
What is Hearlo?
Hearlo is designed for anyone with hearing disabilities or communication challenges, including difficulty understanding speech, planning activities, reading, writing, or using non-verbal communication.
It now includes a customised British Airways version, offering tailored tools to help users communicate comfortably at every stage of their journey with us.
With Hearlo, users can transcribe audio, convert text to speech and translate in real time.
The app supports over 10 languages, including Spanish, Hindi and Arabic, as well as other major international languages. Once installed, it works offline, meaning no Wi-Fi or mobile data is needed. Whether you’re in the air or on the ground, Hearlo is ready to help every step of the way.
How can Hearlo help?
Hearlo offers tools like pictograms, translation and journey planning to support communication at the airport and on board.
Enables real-time communication through speech-to-text and text-to-speech functions, and a translation tool.
Facilitates communication using context-specific pictograms. When selected, each card plays a complete spoken sentence.
Supports quick and simple communication using easily understood key phrases. Each phrase plays as a complete spoken sentence when selected.
Allows you to combine multiple pictograms or shortcuts to create longer, more expressive sentences, making conversations smoother and more natural.
Provides a step-by-step overview of your journey, helping you stay organised and anticipate what’s next.
Adjust font style and size, with dyslexia-friendly and all-uppercase options. Users can change playback speed and resize pictogram cards for better visibility.
Downloading the App
Customers can download the app for free from the Play Store or App Store on their mobile device. Once installed, you can register your details and create an account or simply use the app as a guest without the need to register.
Accessing Hearlo for British Airways
Once you’ve downloaded the Hearlo app, tap the Business button on the toolbar at the bottom of the home screen. This will give you access to the personalised British Airways version.
