St Kitts and Nevis holiday FAQs

  1. St Kitts’ Brimstone Hill Fortress is the country’s only UNESCO-listed site. It’s an enormous, towering fort which took over a century to construct and still has an excellent vantage point, commanding amazing views over its surroundings. And for more great views: the St Kitts Scenic Railway is a really easy way to admire the sugar cane plantations from a picturesque locomotive.
  2. The communities on St Kitts and Nevis come together throughout the year to celebrate: there’s a Golf Tournament, a Latin Fiesta and even a restaurant week. But the main event is the St Kitts Music Festival, which has run for 23 years and seen the likes of Chaka Khan and UB40 play on stage – let it provide the perfect relaxing soundtrack to your holiday.
  3. Many St Kitts beaches sit along its skinny southeast peninsula. Beach-hop from Frigate Bay down to Turtle Beach, where you'll find good views of Nevis. Nevis has plenty of lovely sandy spots, too. Head to Oualie Beach and on to Lover’s Beach for the reverse view back to St Kitts – or drive down to the three-mile long Pinney’s Beach. On both islands, the Caribbean-facing beaches are generally more sheltered than the Atlantic side.
  4. The mountainous interiors of St Kitts and Nevis afford lovely views – if you’re up for a hike to reach them. You can explore the slopes of dormant volcano Mt. Liamuiga on St Kitts. Nevis’s cloud-covered central volcano might not always offer clear views, but it does have a number of trails – and you’re more likely to spot a vervet monkey than another person.
  5. Plantain chips and fresh seafood – especially spiny lobster – star on most of the islands’ menus. St Kitts has a couple of great restaurants, including The Spice Mill, a romantic, open-air venue with views over Nevis. As for your drinks order: the popular Carib beer is brewed on the island – and most resorts have their own special rum punch recipe, so you should probably sample a few.
  • Pack your trainers: St Kitts and Nevis offer great terrain for hikers and anyone who wants to enjoy lovely hilltop views.
  • Golfers will be pleased to find an 18 hole course where they can drive a ball from the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Caribbean Sea.
  • Keen divers might be surprised to find rare black coral trees flourishing underwater at some of the islands’ dive sites.
  • Music lovers will discover the island's annual festival: featuring enough reggae to make the palm trees sway. It’s all here on St Kitts and Nevis.
  • Two islands in one tiny nation in the Leeward Isles, St Kitts and Nevis are separated by a two mile stretch of water known as ‘The Narrows’. St Kitts is the larger of the two; fewer travellers make it over to Nevis, but this is an oversight. Whilst St Kitts and Nevis have got all the hallmarks of a traditional island escape – beaches, rainforest, water sports and cocktails – everything’s just that little bit quieter. In fact, they say that there are actually more vervet monkeys than people on the island – and most visitors would like to keep it that way. Those who are let in on the secret find themselves coming back time and time again.
  • The majority of visitors start their St Kitts holidays here, with our flights landing near Basseterre, the colourful port capital. Nearby is the nightlife strip: Frigate Bay, where locals and tourists alike come for the bars and restaurants. Many visitors remain on this island – chugging along on the famous St Kitts Scenic Railway and checking off the impressive UNESCO-listed Brimstone Fort. There’s a wider range of hotels on this island than on Nevis – from self catering suites to utterly luxurious plantation properties. You could hire a car – or just use taxis to bumble around – and make your way to the jungly interior.
  • Some people say Nevis holidays are like stepping back in time. Little Nevis is what the Caribbean used to be. It’s a gem of an island, with a halo of beaches all around and a minute capital: the colonial-style Charlestown. Volcanic Mount Nevis rises out of its middle, normally wearing its little hat of clouds. The volcano means there are hot springs on the island – a heavy hint that you should really come here to relax. Even getting here is easy: a private water taxi takes just six minutes from St Kitts, or you can take the inexpensive local ferry straight from Basseterre to Charlestown.
