Sorrento flight FAQs

Flights from London Heathrow to Sorrento’s nearest airport, Naples International Airport, take around two hours and 45 minutes.

Sorrento is very popular over the peak summer months, so you’ll often find flights are cheaper from October to April, when the temperatures are cooler too. To find the cheapest flights to Naples for Sorrento, use our low fare finder.

The cliff-top hotels and restaurants with ocean views come with equally sky-high prices, but there are plenty of budget-friendly options to explore across the town. You’re never too far from a locally run guest house or hotel, and there are plenty of great value restaurants and bars to be found as you meander off streets like Corso Italia, one of the city’s main shopping and dining streets.

Many of the town’s cultural attractions are free to enter, so you can save your spending for your evening gelato and limoncello. Visit the Church of St. Francis, a 14th-century church featuring fine baroque architecture. Its beautiful shaded cloister is a great spot to escape the crowds – and it also doubles up as a free open-air art exhibition space in the summer.

Sorrento is around 55km from Naples Airport and many visitors choose to take a taxi from the airport’s official taxi rank – although this can be pricey. You can also book a private transfer in advance if you’d like a straightforward journey to your hotel.

A more budget-friendly option is to take the bus from outside Naples Airport to Sorrento’s city centre. It takes around an hour and 15 minutes. Don’t forget your euros, as you’ll need to pay cash for your ticket.

Once you’re in Sorrento you can navigate the town on foot. However, if you’re spending time down at the marinas, you may want to travel back up the hill by bus.

The local trains are convenient for travelling outside of the immediate area or reaching Pompeii. To visit the towns dotted along the Amalfi Coast, head out on a ferry or take a local bus – and remember to choose a seat on the right-hand side to enjoy the memorable views.

You can hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Sorrento and its surrounding areas have to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Sorrento is a beautiful coastal town that charms visitors with its good looks, great food and glorious weather, but its history and culture ensures there’s more to discover than just la dolce vita. Founded by the Greeks, Sorrento’s townscape is shaped by a rich mix of Roman, Medieval, Baroque and Neoclassical influences. In the centre of the town, you can shop for souvenirs, pottery and lacework before checking out the 11th-century basilica at Piazza Sant’Antonio. Its beautiful Baroque interior is complete with sculptures and ornate frescoes. Then on your way down to the Marina Grande for some seafood and a cocktail, don’t miss one of the original Greek city gates, an ancient archway that’s been standing proud since the 6th century BC.
