Lyon flight FAQs

A flight from London to Lyon takes approximately one hour and 40 minutes.

Lyon is a great-value destination year-round, with the best prices typically found outside of the summer months. However, June and July are great times to visit the city – the fine weather means you’ll be able to dine al fresco, and with many locals leaving the city and heading off on holiday you’ll find the streets and squares tend to be much quieter as you stroll around. Use our low fare finder to check the cheapest options.

As you might expect from a city with such a reputation for great eats, there are fantastic options for drinking and dining in Lyon, whatever your budget. For wallet-friendly meals, opt for picnics in Lyon’s green spaces, including the banks of the Rhone River. Head to one of the markets to pick up some pate en croute, Rosette De Lyon saucisson and a bottle of wine for a late lunch.

Once you arrive, you’ll find getting around the city easy, either on foot or using public transport. Cut the cost of using cabs and take the metro, tram, bus or funicular railways instead. Make sure to do some research before you go, as travel cards offering free entry to museums and guided tours, as well as access to the transport network may also be available.

The Rhônexpress tram service is the fastest way to travel from Lyon Airport to the city centre, with a service departing every 15 or 30 minutes depending on the time of day.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to get out of Lyon and see more of what the surrounding area has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Lyon has all the charm of Paris, but without the crowds. It’s a haven for foodies, paired with plenty for culture vultures and history buffs. Don’t miss the famous UNESCO-approved traboules, a maze of hidden corridors running through buildings and connecting streets. Book a guided tour to learn about their long history in the city or discover them by yourself as you explore Lyon’s cobbled streets.
