North America’s natural beauty

Fly to Vancouver with British Airways and make your way downtown past the city’s glittering towers until you get to the 400-acre Stanley Park.

Cycle past the cedar trees, mighty Douglas firs, and totem poles lining the park’s famous five-plus mile stretch of Seawall, the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path. From there it’s only a short trip to Granville Island, with its sprawling indoor public market selling artisan food and local delicacies, including beaver tails – a flattened fried donut sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Back downtown, hop on a bus from Canada Place to the iconic Capilano Suspension Bridge, 230ft above the Capilano River.

Next up is Grouse Mountain, where you can take on the Grouse Grind, a 2.5km hike up the mountainside along an old lumber route. If nature is your thing, head out to ski or mountain bike in Whistler, explore wine country of the Okanagan, drive into the Canadian Rockies or watch killer whales in the wild from Vancouver Island. Vancouver flight FAQs

A flight from London to Vancouver Airport takes approximately nine hours and 35 minutes.

The cheapest months to fly to Vancouver are January to March. It’s a great time to visit as you’ll often be able to ski and snowboard close to the city on Grouse Mountain, Mount Seymour and Cypress Mountain. The summer months between June and August are Vancouver’s peak season, when temperatures are mild with summer highs in the mid-20s, and there’s a packed schedule of summer festivals to enjoy.

There are many ways to enjoy Vancouver’s best sights on a budget, and the downtown district is easy to explore on foot or with an affordable rented bicycle.

Stanley Park, one of Canada’s most popular attractions, is free to enter and open 24 hours a day. Lynn Canyon offers a free and equally beautiful alternative to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, with the same unforgettable view of the mountains, and you can swim and kayak on the clear blue lake in Deep Cove.

Street food also is plentiful in Vancouver and is a great way to save money on eating out. Take a trip to Granville Island’s market to pick up supplies and ‘buck-a-shuck' oysters for a picnic on Vancouver’s free beaches, including English Bay.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is just 12km away from downtown Vancouver. The Canada Line is a rapid transit rail connecting the airport to downtown Vancouver in less than 30 minutes and is easily accessible from the International Terminal. You can also take a taxi from outside the terminal, which typically takes around 20 minutes.

Vancouver has an excellent public transportation system, including buses, the 53-station Skytrain, and the Aquabus which hops up and down False Creek. The SeaBus crosses the Burrard Inlet and connects the downtown district with North Vancouver. Ferries depart every 15 minutes during the day and take just 12 minutes to cross the Inlet.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to get out of the city and see more of what Vancouver has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

British Columbia’s largest city delivers all the excitement of a thriving modern metropolis alongside acres of photo-ready natural scenery. Opt for a kayak tour up the Indian Arm fjord for some seal spotting or take a paddle board from False Creek to marvel at the mountains towering above the city skyline.

Vancouver is also a gateway to one of the world’s best ski reports at Whistler. Embark on the 100-mile road trip along Highway 99, also known as the Sea to Sky Highway. This spectacular drive, which can take up to three days depending on your itinerary, winds along the coast, taking in national parks, beaches and one of Canada’s most scenic golf courses. Ride the Sea to Sky gondola for sweeping views of Howe Sound and look out for bald eagles along the route.
