More ways to earn extra tier points

As a member of The British Airways Club, you'll automatically earn extra tier points on flights and holidays, as well as flights with American Airlines and Iberia.

How many extra tier points will you earn?

From 1 April 2026, you’ll earn extra tier points based on the cabin you fly in and your fare type chosen when selecting your flight on the booking journey.*

This includes flights taken as part of a British Airways Holidays package, but does not include Basic Economy fares.

*All extra tier points are per individual flight.

Short haul

For American Airlines and Iberia flights, extra tier points will be awarded based on the cabin you fly in.*

You may earn extra tier points on flights taken before 1 April 2026, depending on the cabin you flew in, as shown below.  

  • Euro Traveller: 75 tier points
  • Club Europe: 175 tier points
  • World Traveller: 150 tier points
  • World Traveller Plus: 275 tier points
  • Club World: 400 tier points
  • First: 500 tier points

If you registered for the cabin bonus campaign before 25 November 2025 using the link previously provided, you’ll receive the extra tier points for flights taken from 1 April 2025 onwards. 

If you did not register, you’ll receive the extra tier points only for flights taken from 25 November 2025 onwards.

A Qualifying Flight is a single leg of a journey booked under a British Airways (BA), Iberia (IB) or American Airlines (AA) flight number for travel from 1 April 2026. Qualifying Flights can be operated by British Airways or any of our partner airlines as defined in clause 5(b) of the Terms and Conditions (below).

Extra tier points will be awarded based on the cabin and fare type you pay for and fly in and in agreement with clause 5(a) of the Terms and Conditions (below).

Qualifying Flights shall not include (i) Economy Basic fares, (ii) Reward Flights, (iii) upgrades using Avios or (iv) other promotional upgrades purchased at the airport for a flight marketed or operated by one of our partner airlines.

A Qualifying Holiday package is a trip where Flight + Hotel or Flight + Car is booked. All elements of the trip are bundled together and sold as one package with a single price.

This does not apply to any British Airways flight bookings made without a hotel or car or where the hotel or car is added to a booking in a separate transaction.

There's no need to register to earn extra tier points. 

Extra tier points will be awarded on Qualifying Flights and Qualifying Holidays only.

Extra tier points will be awarded based on the cabin and fare type you pay for and fly in, excluding (i) Economy Basic fares, (ii) Reward Flights, (iii) upgrades using Avios or (iv) other promotional upgrades purchased at the airport for a flight marketed or operated by one of our partner airlines.

Extra tier points will be awarded based on the cabin you pay for and fly in. If you book a Qualifying Flight or Qualifying Holiday during the promotional period and later make changes to your trip, any extra tier points you’re eligible for will be based on your updated ticket.

You’ll automatically be awarded your extra tier points. They'll be credited 48-72 hours after the completion of each Qualifying Flight or Qualifying Holiday for British Airways, or up to seven days for partner airlines.

For flights, your extra tier points will be listed on your statement alongside the standard tier points and Avios you've received. When viewing your statement on our website you may need to view "More details" to see the full breakdown of all the tier points you've received.

For British Airways Holidays package bookings, extra tier points will be awarded in a separate transaction. Tier points for the booking itself will be awarded up to 7 days after you've completed your trip.

No, there are no geographical exclusions. Extra tier points are awarded to all members of The British Airways Club worldwide on a qualifying flight, regardless of their country of residence.

Extra tier points Terms and Conditions

"Fare Type" means an industry standard way for airlines to identify the attributes available as part of a fare product, some of which may be included in the price, and others that may be purchasable for an additional fee. Examples of Fare Types include, without limitation, Economy Plus, Economy Semi-Flex and Economy Fully Flex. 

"Short-haul" means flights where the distance travelled is up to 3,000 miles or up to 2,000 miles on BA-Operated flights, or the following routes: LAS-MIA, LAS-NYC, LAS-PHL, LAS-WAS, LAX-BOS, LAX-CLT, LAX-MCO, LAX-MIA, LAX-NYC, LAX-PHL, LAX-RDU, LAX-WAS, LON-AMM, LON-CAI, LON-LCA, LON-PFO, LON-TBS, LON-TLV, MIA-PDX, PHX-BOS, PHX-NYC, PHX-PHL, SAN-CLT, SAN-MIA, SAN-PHL, SEA-CLT, SEA-MIA, SEA-PHL, SFO-CLT, SFO-MIA, SFO-NYC, SFO-PHL, SNA-CLT, SNA-NYC 

"Long-haul" means flights which are not considered Short-haul. 

"Marketed" means the flight will have the carrier’s number in the itinerary or the ticket (e.g. BA123 for a BA Marketed flight). 

"Operated" means  the aircraft travelled on, is owned by the carrier (including franchises). 

  1. This programme is only open to Eligible Participants. An Eligible Participant is a British Airways Plc (“BA”) Club member.

2. To earn the additional tier points as part of this programme, you must travel on a Qualifying Flight or Qualifying Holiday (see below for definitions).

3. Eligible Participants will qualify for the additional tier points on travel on Qualifying Flights or Holidays flown or taken for the below reasons:

  • Eligible Participants may have opted in to the ‘Cabin Bonus’ scheme launched on 1 April 2025 and will have been awarded extra tier points for Qualifying Flights or Holidays taken between 1 April 2025 until 31 December 2025, and shall continue to earn extra tier points on the terms of this programme; and
  • For all other customers who may not have registered, extra tier points shall be awarded automatically, and those customers shall become Eligible Participants under this programme for Qualifying Flights or Holidays taken or flown from 25 November 2025.

4. Tier points will be awarded based on the date of the flight, the Marketing carrier, the cabin you fly in and the Fare Type purchased:

For flights before 01 April 2026, tier points will be awarded on BA-Marketed flights only, based on the cabin:

  • Euro Traveller: 75 extra tier points
  • Club Europe: 175 extra tier points
  • World Traveller: 150 extra tier points
  • World Traveller Plus: 275 extra tier points
  • Club World: 400 extra tier points
  • First: 550 extra tier points

For flights on or after 01 April 2026, the tier points awarded as follows:

  • For BA-Marketed flights, it will be based on cabin and Fare Type:
    • Euro Traveller:
      • Economy Plus: 75 extra tier points
      • Economy Semi-Flex: 175 extra tier points
      • Economy Fully Flex: 275 extra tier points
    • Club Europe:
      • Business: 175 extra tier points
      • Business Semi-Flex: 275 extra tier points

    • Where British Airways is unable, acting reasonably, to identify the applicable Fare Type, extra tier points will be awarded at the lowest Fare Type level applicable to the relevant cabin.
  • AA & IB-Marketed flights, earn tier points  based on haul and cabin:
    • Short-haul Economy: 75 extra tier points
    • Short-haul Premium Economy: 75 extra tier points
    • Short-haul Business: 175 extra tier points
    • Short-haul First: 175 extra tier points
    • Long-haul Economy: 150 extra tier points
    • Long-haul Premium Economy: 275 extra tier points
    • Long-haul Business: 500 extra tier points
    • Long haul First: 650 extra tier points

5. A Qualifying Flight is a single sector of a journey (a return point-to-point trip would be two Qualifying Flights).

A Qualifying Flight is:

a. Any flight Marketed by BA, AA or IB (excluding Economy Basic fares, Reward Flights, upgrades using Avios or other promotional upgrades purchased at the airport or for a flight operated by one of our partner airlines); and

b. Operated by British Airways, Aer Lingus, Air Nostrum For Iberia, airBaltic, Aitlink, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Southern Airlines, Emerald Airlines For Aer Lingus, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Iberia For Level Spain For Iberia, IndiGo, Japan Airlines, jetBlue, Kenya Airways, LATAM Airlines Group, Loganair, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc or Vueling.

6. Qualifying Flights can be booked as a one way, return, or multi-trip bookings. There is no maximum number of Qualifying Flights that you may book, pursuant to these Terms and Conditions.

7. Qualifying Flights are subject to availability and capacity control in the booking classes eligible for this programme at the time of booking. BA does not accept any liability if Eligible Participants are unable to book a Qualifying Flight for their chosen period of travel.

8. A Qualifying Holiday package is a trip where Flight + Hotel or Flight + Car is booked. All elements of the trip are bundled together and sold as one package with a single price. This does not apply to any British Airways flight bookings made without a hotel or car or where the hotel or car is added to a booking in a separate transaction.

9. All Qualifying Flights and Holidays must be travelled on or after 25 November 2025, unless the Eligible Participant has registered for the programme on this page, following the “Register now” link provided, in which case any Qualifying Flights or Holidays must be travelled on or after 1 April 2025.

10. Extra tier point awarding on Qualifying Flights and Qualifying Holidays:

  • Eligible Participants who complete any Qualifying Flight or Qualifying Holiday will be automatically awarded bonus tier points based on the tables above, 24-48 hours after completion of each Qualifying Flight or Holiday for BA-Marketed flights, or up to 7 days after for BA & IB-Marketed flights.
  • The order of booking does not determine the order in which Qualifying Flights or Qualifying Holidays are awarded.

11. If booking direct with British Airways via telephone on 0344 493 0787 or online at ba.com, payment by cheque will not be accepted. Bookings made over the telephone will carry a non-refundable £10 offline booking fee per person per ticket. Calls charged at local rate from landline. Calls from mobiles may vary. Tier points are not transferable and no cash or credit alternative will be offered. This programme has no cash value. All Avios and tier points are issued subject to The British Airways Club Terms and Conditions.

12. Eligible Participants who change their travel arrangements after the date of booking will not be eligible for any extra tier points unless their revised travel still meets the Qualifying Flight or Holiday requirements.

13. All bookings under this programme will be covered by the fare rules and conditions of the original fare. This includes any applicable refund and change fees. All refunds are subject to the fare rules for the class of ticket booked. Fare rules and conditions appear in your booking details when you access your booking on ba.com through the ‘Manage my booking’ functionality.

14. All Passengers are carried by British Airways in accordance with its General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage and its Notice and Conditions of Contract as stated on each ticket or itinerary as provided.

15. British Airways reserves the right to cancel this programme or amend the terms of this programme without notice in the event of major catastrophe, war, strike, civil or military disturbance, earthquake or any actual, anticipated or alleged breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other similar events beyond the reasonable control of British Airways.

16 British Airways and/or AGL British Airways and AGL reserve the right at all times to make any changes to the Terms and Conditions at any time.

17. Personal data will be taken where necessary from Eligible Participants but shall be limited to those details reasonably necessary for the administration of the programme and shall be subject to BA's Privacy Policy. This information may be shared with any third parties reasonably involved in the programme without liability to BA or such third parties.

18. BA is in no way liable for the reproduction or indirect access via third party website or homepage access which reproduction misstates or omits any of the information or Terms and Conditions of this programme.

19. Subject to the below, this programme and any other non-contractual obligations arising out of or in connection with it is governed exclusively by English law and is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales:

  • If you are a resident in the United Kingdom but outside of England and Wales, then the courts of Scotland or Northern Ireland (depending on your residence) also have jurisdiction;
  • If you are a resident in a member state of the European Union (EU) other than the United Kingdom, then the courts of that member state also have jurisdiction; and
  • If you are a resident of a country which is a signatory to the Rome Convention, your contract is governed in all aspects by English law, but you will have the benefit of any mandatory rules of law applicable in your country of residence.

20. Programme materials form part of these Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions will prevail in the event of any conflict between these and the programme materials.
