What to do in Vancouver
Eat your way around Granville Island
Head to Granville Island’s Public Market to enjoy casual bites or sit-down meals – there’s something for everyone, and it’s all delicious. Once you’ve had your fill, there are shops filled with artisan crafts and performance venues to keep you entertained.
Wander Gastown’s cobbled streets
Gastown, Vancouver’s historic neighbourhood, has something to discover whatever time you’re there. By day, admire the Victorian architecture and the district’s Whistling Steam Clock. By night, there are patios and cocktail bars for drinks, and seafood restaurants you’ll want to keep going back to.
Drive the Sea-to-Sky Highway
Leave Vancouver behind and head towards one of the world’s best ski resorts, Whistler. While you can admire the Olympic rings installed to celebrate the 2010 Winter Olympics, there are also mountain activities for all the seasons, including zip lining and snowboarding.
Vancouver’s Pacific coastline sets it up for warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. It’s also surrounded by mountains and rainforest, so you can expect a mix of conditions, especially from autumn to early spring. Head into nature and expect to find snow in some places during the winter.
June to August
These months get the best of Vancouver’s weather. In July, leave the jacket at home for Canada Day celebrations as temperatures reach the mid-20s. The days are long too, so you have plenty of time for making the most of the city’s attractions.
September to November
Like much of North America, Vancouver shows off with pops of colour during the autumn months as the trees turn and the weather cools. The rain picks up at this time, offering a taste of the Pacific Northwest’s famously gloomy climate.
January to March
If you’re a keen skier, pack your salopettes and pick a mountain range to stretch your legs on. There are several within easy driving distance of the city, which doesn’t get much snowfall in comparison with other Canadian cities.
