Frequently asked questions

Can I select a seat in an emergency exit row?

Last updated: 2 May, 2024

Exit row seats are located either next to or immediately behind the aircraft’s exit doors. If you choose an exit seat, you’ll be expected to help us open the emergency door in the unlikely event of an evacuation.

For this reason, you must adhere to CAA safety requirements to be sat in this area.

You must be:

  • Older than 12 years
  • Willing and able to help in an emergency evacuation
  • Able to understand instructions given in English
  • Fit enough to operate an emergency exit door
  • Not pregnant
  • Not substantially hard of hearing / Deaf, have low vision / Blind, or have accessibility needs

When requesting an exit row seat, ba.com will ask you to verify that you meet the seating requirements. Staff will also verify this at the airport. If you don't meet these requirements, you will be moved to an alternative seat.
