Skiathos holidays
Skiathos, in the Aegean’s Sporades archipelago, packs a lot into its seven by four miles. For starters there’s no fewer than 60 laid-back beaches lapped by turquoise seas. Its hills are fragrant thanks to lush pine forests, there’s nightlife in its town and history on its slopes. Whether you’re a fly-and-flop kind of person or like to pack as much as you can into a holiday, Skiathos could be just your thing.
Walk through the pines to delicious beaches
Skiathos is a happy blend of bars and tavernas, busy beaches and reclusive coves. Head further inland and you’ll discover a world of solitude, panoramas, and a smattering of medieval monuments.
With its own international airport, Skiathos is easy to reach, while its size makes getting about simple. Take to the island’s 130 miles of hiking trails or hire a bike to seek out well-preserved Venetian monasteries, cute churches and out-of-the-way tavernas. Its beaches and aquamarine waters are made for brochures and range from castaway coves to huge sandy sweeps. You can make a splash with water sports or even dance into sunset with a DJ-led party. If you want to explore further, island-hop by ferry to quieter Skopelos or Alonnisos. Find your perfect holiday now by booking flights to Skiathos

Skiathos holiday FAQs
- Visit the island’s dance theatre. Opened in 2022 the Skiathos Garden Theatre has hosted events such as Greek Evenings with live music and dance productions as well as workshops based around Greek mythology, philosophy and culture.
- A boat trip around Skiathos is a favourite way to see its 27 miles of coastline. You can do anything from all-day cruises with swimming and lunch to a Mamma Mia cruise (chunks of the hit movie were filmed here). Hire paddleboards or kayaks and visit secluded beaches and coves. You can even take a private yacht tour.
- Skedaddle to the stunning setting of one of Skiathos’ most coveted beaches, Lalaria. It’s accessible only by boat, which makes it extra special. You’ll be greeted with white disc-shaped pebbles and clear blue waters, alongside the Tripia Petra – a stone arch that plunges into the sea. Come in the morning when it’s in full sun.
- Like to hike? Add another four legs to your walk. Check out the tour that takes in the famous Skiathos Dog Shelter. Pick up a pooch and join their experienced hikers for a walk through the hills with your new four-legged friend before stopping at a local house for cooking lessons. It all culminates in a big, fat Greek feast.
- Cook your way into the culture by taking a local class. Head to any number of cooking classes run from trendy delis like Ergons – learn how to make the perfect stuffed vine leaves and tzatziki (easier to type than make) – and yes there is a knack to it.
- Head to the open-air cinema – you might catch a showing of Mamma Mia! It’s just a few minutes from the harbour in Skiathos town and there’s usually a raucous sing-along too. There’s a bar serving cocktails should you need a little lubrication, first.
- The real draw for Skiathos must be its beaches – all 60 of them. For families – hop on one of the buses that trundles along the east coast to get to Troulos beach. Its waters are calm, and in summer, it’s overseen by lifeguards. Kick back with some loukoumades (doughnuts) from the local vendors. Another spot worth trying is Agia Paraskevi Beach which doesn’t get too crowded.
- For seclusion – those looking for peace and quiet should try Katharina beach – you have to walk through a forest to get to it.
- For party people – join the young, tanned crowd at Vromolimnos in the summer to dance away the evening to DJ sets. Also check out Big Banana (a short walk from the bus stop at Koukounaries beach). Let the thumping bass guide you there. Incidentally, the next cove along finds a nudist beach with a somewhat unfortunate name: Little Banana (named after its crescent shape).
- For adventurers – if you want to see as much of the coastline as possible and access quiet and remote beaches, head to the harbour in Skiathos town and book a tour or hire your own boat. If you do, make sure you don’t miss one of the prettiest beaches…
- For sunset lovers and Instagrammers – Lalaria beach has white discs as pebbles and an almost perfect stone arch. For picture-perfect sunsets, head to the remote Agia Eleni. It has a broad beach facing west towards the mountainous mainland. Enjoy with a Mythos beer from the bar.
