London flight FAQs

Your flight time to London depends on where you’re flying from and which airport you’re landing in. You can see flight times on our timetable.

You should go to the airport at least two hours before your flight to London to give you plenty of time to pass through security checks.

We offer flights to three different London airports, so you can choose the one that’s most convenient for where you’re staying.

London Heathrow is London’s busiest airport. There are several options for your journey into the city, including the Heathrow Express, which takes 20 minutes to Paddington. The Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly tube line offer travel to other stations across the capital.

Catch a direct train from London Gatwick via the Gatwick Express and you’ll be at Victoria station in south London in 30 minutes. Or, hop on a Southern Rail train to get off at a stop close by.

Board the DLR from the train station just 50 metres from London City Airport for connections to the London underground network. It takes just 10 minutes to reach Canning Town tube station, where you can change to the Jubilee line.

London can be very busy during the British school holidays, especially throughout summer and the Christmas period, so fares may be higher at these times. But the capital has year-round appeal, so save money by visiting in spring to join Londoners rejoicing in beer gardens in the sunshine, or autumn to stroll through the city’s many parks with a hot coffee.

London is a city of contrasts that caters to everyone, so you can easily adapt the cost of your trip to fit your budget.

You’ll find accommodation at a range of price points, and the city’s great transport links mean you can choose to stay somewhere more affordable and hop on a tube or a bus to wherever’s on your itinerary.

It's also free to view the permanent collections of most of London’s museums. So head to the British Museum, the Tate Modern and the Science Museum to take in London’s history, art and innovative spirit without spending a penny.

London has an excellent public transport system. Transport for London – known locally as TfL – offers connections across the city by both underground and overground trains, buses and boats along the River Thames. Lots of TfL’s services run until the early hours and some operate throughout the night during the weekends, but make sure to check before you travel.

Pack your comfiest walking shoes, as you can also explore much of central London on foot – and it’s often quicker to walk than it is to go one stop on the tube. Go for a stroll along the Southbank for some of the best views of the key sights.

The rest of the UK is easily accessible by train from London’s main train terminals. Book your tickets in advance for the best prices.

London is alive with history and its iconic landmarks are reason alone to visit – yet this vibrant city is always changing and evolving. The arts, music and cultural scenes draw talent and visitors from around the world, so there’s plenty to discover on your trip. London’s music festivals begin in May, so book tickets in advance for a chance to catch some of the world’s biggest acts.

Within London, you'll find distinct local neighbourhoods to explore, each with their own sense of community. Walk the charming streets of Marylebone, stroll along Regents Canal from Camden to Little Venice or browse the eclectic stalls at Colombia Road Flower Market. You’ll also have easy access to some of the UK’s other historic towns and cities. Take a train to Cambridge to explore this famous university city, or venture to the Brighton on the south coast for a taste of the British seaside.

From the buzzing music and arts scene to the long list of critically acclaimed restaurants to try, you can fill every hour of your day with excitement or relaxation.

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit. If you hold a passport from a country or territory outside of these areas, you may need to apply for a visa before you travel. You can find out more about visa requirements for all the countries we fly to at the IATA Travel Centre.
