It’s easy to travel the 4½ miles (7 kilometres) from Dusseldorf’s airport to the city centre. Trains on S-Bahn line 7 leave from within the airport to Dusseldorf every half hour and take 30 minutes, while trains to other German destinations are reached from a separate station, connected to the airport by free monorail.
Dusseldorf airport has good shopping and eating options both before and after customs. Sushi and sake at Japanese restaurant Kikaku is particularly good, perhaps due to regular custom from Dusseldorf’s large Japanese community. Once you’ve cleared customs, authentic Rhineland specialities are to be had in the Lorelei Bistro. An excellent range of duty free shopping is available in the departure lounge.
