About Tier Points

Pile of stones on a mountain.

Tier Points are the key to unlocking the benefits of the Club. The more you collect by flying with us and our oneworld® airline partners the further you’ll move through the tiers.

Here’s what you need to know about Tier Points:

  • you earn Tier Points by flying with us and our oneworld airline partners
  • the number you earn depends on your ticket type and fare class — in general, you’ll earn more on longer flights in premium cabins and on flexible fares
  • unlike Avios, Tier Points cannot be bought, shared or spent — their sole purpose is to move you through the tiers of the Club
  • Tier Points are reset to zero at the end of your membership year
  • all the Tier Points you've earned as a member of the Club count towards your Lifetime Tier Points total, for more recognition and rewards

collapsedshowWhen do I earn Tier Points?

You earn Tier Points every time you fly with us, our subsidiaries and our oneworld airline partners, giving you a greater choice and flexibility when choosing who to fly with.

Almost all flights award Tier Points. The only exceptions are reward flights, agency and industry discounted fares and flights with an airline that is not part of oneworld.

collapsedshowHow many Tier Points will I earn?

There are two ways to see how many Tier Points a particular flight will give you:

  1. you can use our flight calculator to work out Tier Point and Avios amounts for any route, or
  2. for existing bookings, look in Manage My Booking under 'passenger information' (you'll need to add your Executive Club number to the booking if you haven't already done so)

The number of Tier Points you earn on a flight depends on the route, operating airline and fare class. In general, longer flights in premium cabins award more Tier Points. Some economy fares award reduced tier points:

  • low economy fares (K, L, M, N, S and V) award 50% of the standard Tier Points for any given flight
  • lowest economy fares (Q, O and G) award 25% of the standard Tier Points for any given flight

collapsedshowWhat happens when I reach the next Tier?

Once you earn enough Tier Points for the next membership tier, you'll be awarded that status straight away*. It lasts for the rest of your current membership year and for the full following membership year — unless you reach the next tier in the meantime.

For instance, if you start your membership year as a Blue Member and earn 300 Tier Points, you'll become a Bronze Member with all of the benefits.

You will continue to earn Tier Points when you fly and if you reach 600 within the same year, you'll become a Silver Member.

Once your Tier Points reset to zero at the end of your membership year — the anniversary of when you joined — you will stay as a Silver Member for the next membership year.

*This can take up to 48 hours to appear on your account.

collapsedshowDo Tier Points expire and how do they relate to Lifetime Tier Points?

Yes, your Tier Points will expire at the end of each membership year – the anniversary of when you joined the Club. They will then be added to your Lifetime Tier Points which is the total Tier Points you’ve ever earned with the Club. We’ll offer you recognition and rewards for your lifetime of loyalty.

Your membership year-end date and Lifetime Tier points are shown on your account page:

collapsedshowWhat if my Tier Points aren't showing on my account?

It’s really important that you remember to add your Club membership number every time you make a booking so that your Tier Points are automatically added once you have flown. Tier Points for British Airways flights are normally credited soon after your flight but Tier Points for other carriers may take up to four weeks to be processed.

If for any reason you believe Tier Points (or Avios) are missing, you may be able to claim them back within 6 months, providing you still have the ticket number.

In addition, new Members can claim for British Airways flights flown up to three months before joining.

If you can’t find your ticket number, don’t worry — you can contact us or call your local Service Centre and they’ll be able to help you.
