Which cabins can I book when I fly with British Airways?

Our economy class (World Traveller) cabins are great value for those looking for cheap flights. For an extra fee, you can select your seats in advance – the quieter seats are towards the front of the plane. Sit directly above the wings to reduce the effects of any turbulence. Choose to fly with hand baggage only or pick a price that includes a 23kg checked baggage allowance and free seat selection 24 hours before you fly.

Premium economy class (World Traveller Plus) has more legroom and a smaller cabin with greater privacy. Enjoy the comforts of cosy cushions, blankets, eye masks, toothbrush, toothpaste and more features to ease your long-haul journey.

Our business class (Club World) cabin has fully flat beds for total comfort, dining menus designed by top chefs and fast track priority through the airport, to make your journey even easier from the start.

First class cabins are the epitome of luxury, from fully flat beds in private suites, to exclusive lounge and spa access on the ground – enjoy ultimate exclusivity.

A flyer's guide: Miami flight tips

Everything you need to know about flying to Miami with British Airways.

How long is the flight time from London to Miami?

Flights take around nine hours from London Heathrow to Miami International with British Airways. Miami is five hours behind London for most of the year, four hours behind London just as it changes over to daylight savings time.

Miami International Airport arrivals

Hints of the city beyond will strike you from the moment you step into Miami International Airport – Spanish voices, salsa music and the glint of sunglasses worn indoors. Miami airport is eight miles from the city centre.

Hail a taxi outside the terminal or pre-book an airport transfer before you travel to take the stress out of getting to your Miami hotel. You’ll be given the opportunity to add a shuttle or private door-to-door transfer once you’ve booked your Miami flight or holiday.

Alternatively, book car hire, in partnership with Avis, and explore Southern Florida in your own time.

Do I need a visa to travel to Miami?

If you’re travelling on a British passport then you don’t need a visa to fly into Miami – but you do need to apply for an ESTA at least 72 hours before you travel. It costs $14 to register for your ESTA. Once it’s approved, you can use it for multiple journeys for two years, or until your passport expires.

Three long-haul flight tips for Miami

Travelling can be tiring, so follow these simple tips to take the stress out of your Miami flight.

  1. You can’t beat a good night’s sleep before your flight. Beat jet lag by living on your new time zone as soon as you can. Miami is in the Eastern Time Zone in the States, making it just five hours behind London. Use our jet lag calculator for advice from our sleep expert.
  2. Stay fully hydrated and avoid stimulants like caffeine and chocolate. Alcohol can also affect your sleep, so limit consumption on and before a flight.
  3. Don’t cramp your space with too much carry-on luggage around your feet. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring extra layers on board with you. Don’t forget to walk around to keep your blood flowing – as this can also reduce the effects of jet lag.

And once you’re in holiday mode, stay that way. Book your hotel and car in advance with British Airways to take the stress out of arrival.

Miami tips

Our Miami cheat sheet will have you feeling like a local in no time.

When to tip

It's customary to tip between 15 and 20% in the US, for everything from restaurants and bars to taxis and bellboys.

Getting around

All the best Miami sights are within walking distance of each other, or you can order an Uber. Hire a car with Avis to explore beyond the city at your leisure.

When you leave

Look down from the plane over Wynwood Walls, and see if you can spot the cheeky rooftop art on the top of the Goldman Global Arts Gallery from your plane seat – it’s a woman in a bath that you can’t see from street level.

Where to stay

W South Beach is sleek, contemporary and beautiful. This oceanfront hotel is near all the action of Collins Avenue, but remains a perfect oasis of calm. This cool hotel is a Miami hotspot – look out for pool parties and happy hours.

What to eat

There are plenty of places to eat on Miami beach, but not all of them have received the locals’ approval. Miamians do love 27, though. This modern, trendy restaurant serves healthy American food, and plenty of vegetarian plates. Take a seat at a bench and tuck in.

Get on the water

Things to do

Copy a rap music video and get yourself cruising the bay in a hire boat. It's what the wealthy locals do. You’ll see a different side of the city from the water. If a glizty yacht isn't within your means, try a Biscayne Bay Cruise.
