A PED is a Portable Electronic Device. This is any piece of lightweight, electrically powered equipment. These devices are typically consumer electronic devices, capable of communications, data processing and/or computing. Examples are laptop computers, tablets, e-readers, smartphones, drones and electronic toys.

Before seeking approval, please be aware that to be allowed on board, British Airways must establish the following criteria:
- Your battery(ies) are of a type that meets the requirements of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3 for carriage by air. This is usually demonstrated by a UN38.3 test certificate, which is available from the manufacturer. Without this information your battery is unlikely to be accepted for travel.
- The Watt hour [Wh] rating of the battery(ies)
- Manufacturer
- Battery model number(s)
If your battery(ies) are found to be acceptable for carriage, the maximum number permitted is two. British Airways will notify you regarding the status of your request by email.
