Buenos Aires flight FAQs

A flight to Buenos Aires’ Ministro Pistarini International Airport, also known as Ezeiza International Airport, takes around 16 hours 40 minutes from London Heathrow, and includes a short stop in Rio de Janeiro.

You’ll find it’s most expensive to visit Buenos Aires in the city’s summer, during winter in the UK, with prices at their highest in February during Carnaval. If you want to find the cheapest flights, it’s best to avoid this period and travel in July and August instead. For a balance of great prices, pleasant weather and fewer crowds, book your trip during the city’s spring from September to November, and in autumn, from April to June. Use our low fare finder to find the cheapest time to visit Buenos Aires.

If you’re travelling on a budget, there are a few tips and tricks for making your money go a little further. Both the US dollar and the Argentine peso are accepted in Buenos Aires, but due to the changeable nature of the local currency, it’s best to do a bit of research on which will get you the most bang for your buck before you travel. Once you’ve arrived, you can visit most of the city’s big sights by using the cheap public transport system and take advantage of the range of accommodation options available by booking a hostel for a low-cost getaway. If you’re indulging in some local delicacies for lunch, visit a comida por peso – a restaurant where the food is priced by its weight – to pay for as much or as little as you’d like to eat. Another affordable delicacy is an empanada, which you can pick up in food stalls around the city.

Once you touch down at Ministro Pistarini International Airport, you’re just 22km from the city centre. You can take a shuttle bus into downtown Buenos Aires, which takes about 50 minutes, or a taxi in 30.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to get out of the city and see more of what Buenos Aires has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

There’s nowhere quite like Buenos Aires. Days in this Latin American city are spent visiting museums, sipping the speciality coffee enjoyed by the locals and watching dancers wow the crowds. As the birthplace of the tango, it’s not unusual to spot couples performing the iconic dance at markets or even in the streets. Head to Palermo for the best restaurants and bars, and San Telmo for a taste of the Buenos Aires from the past – it’s the city’s oldest neighbourhood.
