Flights to Egypt

Nestled in North Africa’s eastern tip, Egypt is famous for its ancient wonders including the colossal Pyramids of Giza and the vast temple complex in the Valley of the Kings. While the country’s archaeological treasures deserve to feature high on any itinerary, look beyond the Great Sphinx and the pharaohs’ tombs and you’ll find plenty of modern luxury alongside the marvels of early civilisation.

Egypt flight FAQs

A flight from London to Egypt takes just over five hours.

British Airways flies direct to Egypt from London Heathrow.

You can find great deals on flight to Egypt year-round, but you’ll usually get the best prices between September and February. The autumn and winter periods are ideal times to travel, when the temperature is cooler and there are fewer visitors. Not only will you get some winter sun, but you’ll also be able seek out cut-priced accommodation outside of the busiest season.

Egypt’s desert climate means it’s a great destination for a warm winter getaway, with temperatures often above 20 degrees in November and January. Late autumn is perfect for desert treks and exploring Cairo’s monuments and the temples around Luxor and Aswan. You’ll get guaranteed sunshine, but temperatures are much cooler than the peak summer months. July is the hottest time of the year, when the mercury can push past 40 degrees.

Egypt is a destination that caters for any budget, whether you’re looking for a hostel, high-end experience or something a little more boutique. Choosing accommodation in the heart of Cairo will help cut travel costs, as many of the city’s sights are within walking distance of each other. If you’re travelling to the main archaeological attractions in Giza and Luxor, consider buying a pass at each location, as they both offer unlimited, five-day access to the sites and museums for a set price. To cut the cost of eating out, enjoy delicious, wallet-friendly meals from the many street food vendors in the towns and cities.

Cairo is well served by public transport, with buses, trams and the Metro network covering the entire city. Ride-hailing apps and taxis are also available.

If you’re travelling out of the capital, the train is the easiest way to reach places like Luxor, Aswan and Alexandria. The journey to Aswan in the south can take more than 14 hours by train, but you’ll be travelling along the Nile Valley which offers spectacular views. Or you can take the overnight sleeper train, which runs nightly from Cairo.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Egypt has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Egypt is a destination that offers something for every traveller, whether it’s a lively city break you’re after, a cultural extravaganza or a family-friendly beach holiday.

At just five hours from the UK, it’s also the perfect choice for a last-minute getaway or a great-value winter escape. Visit in November and you could find yourself sailing down the Nile on a traditional felucca, overlooking a magical oasis in the White Desert National Park, or enjoying an al-fresco desert meal cooked on an open fire.

You can book a hand baggage-only ticket or make the most of our generous baggage allowance. If you choose economy standard or one of our British Airways Holidays’ packages, each passenger can check in a bag weighing up to 23kg – in addition to a handbag, laptop case or other small bag. If you’re flying in our business cabin, you can check in two bags weighing up to 32kg each. Read our baggage guide for full details.

If you travel to Egypt with a valid British passport and stay for less than 90 days, a visa is not required. For more visa information, visit the IATA Travel Centre.

Discover outstanding service from the moment you book. Fly with just hand baggage and you can carry two bags free of charge. Choose our checked baggage option and you can travel with hand baggage and a 23kg bag checked into the hold, plus enjoy free seat selection 24 hours before you fly.
