Medieval history, modern destination

Fly to Edinburgh with British Airways and explore the elegant Princes Street Gardens, home of the Sir Walter Scott Monument, Scottish National Gallery and, during the festive season, Edinburgh’s famous Christmas market.

Discover the architecture of the Medieval Old Town with its historic tenements and narrow alleys, while the Georgian New Town shows off broad streets and a first-class shopping scene.

Not too far away are the cliffs and slopes of Salisbury Crags, great for hiking and panoramic views of the city. Or, head up the nearby dormant volcano, Arthur’s Seat, which is said to be a possible site of King Arthur’s Camelot. Book your city break to Edinburgh today.

Edinburgh flight FAQs

A flight from London to Edinburgh Airport takes about one hour and 20 minutes.

You can fly to Edinburgh from London Heathrow Airport and London City Airport.

January and February, deep in the Scottish winter, are usually the cheapest months to fly to Edinburgh. It’s a great time to enjoy local distillery tours and cosy traditional pubs.

The warmer summer months from June to August bring longer days and clearer skies. It’s also when you’ll find events like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Hiking, boat trips and open-water swimming are among many popular outdoor activities at this time.

Edinburgh is a city with options for any budget, so you’ll always have a wide variety of places to stay in and eat at. Choose from five-star boutique hotels, canal boatels, cosy bed and breakfasts and even hostels – if you’re keen to keep costs low.

For pocket-friendly adventures, try the ruins and gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse or the view from Calton Hill. There are also whisky and gin tours and bars throughout the city, plus a wide selection of Michelin-starred restaurants.

24-hour buses, trams and taxis help you get from the airport to the city centre in around 30 minutes. Once there, buses and trams are the most affordable way to see the city, and taxis and bikes are also available. Edinburgh is also a very walkable city, so you can get plenty of steps in while exploring.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to get out of the city and see more of what Scotland has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

From watching Scotland play rugby at Murrayfield, shopping in boutiques, visiting the mystical Greyfriars Kirkyard or ticking off Edinburgh Castle, the city has something for everyone. The picturesque Dean Village is an easy walk from the New Town if you fancy an escape from the bustle of the city. Or, about a mile east, walkers and hikers can find the glens, gorse, ridges and cliffs of Holyrood Park, glorious in its 650 acres.
