Excess-baggage fees

Extra bag charge

If you are travelling with baggage that exceeds your baggage allowance, an extra baggage charge applies.

Heavy bag charge

If you are travelling with a bag that weights 23–32 kg or exceeds the standard size of 158 cm, a heavy bag charge applies.

Special baggage

In case sporting equipment is within the size and weight of a standard bag, these items can be carried as part of the normal baggage allowance. Lue lisää.

In case special baggage exceeds the standard allowance or size, extra bag charge or heavy bag charge applies.

In case special baggage exceeds the maximum measures (190 cm x 75 cm x 65 cm), a prior approval is needed from the airline. A fixed rate of €150 or USD/CAD200 is collected at the airport.

Firearms and ammunition

A firearm case may contain maximum 2 rifles or shotguns (long arm) or 5 guns (short arm). A handling fee of €25 per firearm case is always collected.

Securely boxed cartridges may be carried in checked baggage only in quantities not exceeding 5 kg (including the package) per passenger.

Pets

Pets are not included in your baggage allowance, so you will always need to pay a fee for their transportation at the airport. Assistance and service dogs may be transported free of charge.

Charges

The following table contains the charges for Finnair scheduled flights. If your ticket includes flights from other airlines, IATA standards define which airline’s baggage regulations apply to those flights. For flights operated by American Airlines, British Airlines or Iberia, see links on the left.

Fees are in euros, EUR, or the equivalent local currency. When departing from Canada, the fees quoted are collected in CAD. When departing from USA, the fees quoted are collected in USD. Each fee is for flights in one direction only.

Payment of extra bag charge and heavy bag charge

  • If you’re travelling on a Finnair marketed and operated flight, you can pay extra bag charges on our website via the My booking link.
  • If you’re travelling on a Finnair leisure flight (AY1000 series), you can pay extra bag charges on our website via the Leisure flights supplementary services link.
  • Charge for carrying items that exceed the standard bag size or weight can only be paid at the airport.
  • Charge for transporting pets can only be paid at the airport.
  • If you’re travelling in a group, you can pay extra bag charges in advance by contacting Finnair or your travel agency.
  • If you are travelling on a flight operated by Finnair but your ticket has been issued by another airline, you can pay for your excess baggage at the Finnair service desk at the airport
