Travelling into Almaty

Almaty airport (ALA) is 10 miles northeast of the City centre.  A taxi ride will take around 30 minutes - expect to pay around £10. Various bus routes run from the airport to the city, costing around £3 for the 40 minute journey.

Escape to the country

Escape the heat of the city and head for the Chimbulak Ski Resort, located 15 miles away in the majestic Tian-Shan Mountains, or spend a day at the famous Medeo Ice-skating stadium. Protected by the vast Medeu Dam, it's a popular skating area for locals and tourists alike.

For amazing views of the mountain ranges and the city (particularly beautiful at night), take the cable car to the top of Kok-Tyube, known as Blue Hill, which is over 1,000m above sea level. While you're there, relax with a cool beer at The Grill and breathe the fresh alpine air in wonderful surroundings and truly spectacular views over Almaty.
