The Plantation Resort on Crystal River is a sprawling, traditional property, positioned along Florida’s nature coastline, in a privileged setting beside a world-class 18-hole golf course and the stunning Crystal River. The resort is packed full of facilities including three dining options, a large lagoon style pool with a hot tub, a spa and fitness centre. In addition, the Adventure Centre provides everything you need to snorkel, swim and fish, as well as other activities including boating, kayaking and paddle boarding.
The location of the hotel is superb and is very much defined by, and benefits from, the natural waterways that flow from Kings Bay. Water adventures are in abundance here and include diving into the famous Kings Spring – one of the deepest springs in Kings Bay, which is less than a mile from the resort. Alternatively, jump on a clear kayak and paddle along the wonderful waterways, spotting wildlife beneath the surface or cruise through a river of grass in only inches of water on a thrilling airboat. Other attractions in the area are the Archaeological State Park, approximately six miles from the hotel and Fort Island Beach – a beautiful family-friendly beach that boasts calm, shallow waters that are perfect for swimming. Tampa International Airport is the closest while Orlando International Airport is also an option, at 76 miles and 98 miles away respectively.
The hotel itself is reminiscent of an old world, classic southern-style property, with hardwood floors, ceiling fans and a grand entrance featuring white columns and green shutters. Rooms are comfortable and spacious, although they could benefit from a refresh as they are a little dated in decor. Standard facilities include a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a refrigerator to enable you to stock up on essentials. Wi-Fi is free and most rooms offer beautiful views of the garden or the surrounding waterways.

The resort offers an impressive range of facilities to fill your time. There’s a lovely lagoon style pool overlooking the river and a separate hot tub. The pool is surrounded by plenty of sun loungers so you’ll easily find your perfect spot. The Spa Bleu provides a full menu of treatments using Aveda products which include facials, massage therapy, manicures and pedicures, as well as a Vichy shower for extra relaxation and a full hair salon. You have access to the hotel’s picturesque 18-hole championship golf course, designed for all skill levels in a classic Florida style – featuring towering pines and oak trees, challenging fairways and 53 bunkers throughout. In addition, there’s a small gym, two tennis courts, a volleyball court and a croquet lawn. As for water sports, the Dive Shop and Adventure Centre offer ample services and equipment (to rent) so you can enjoy hours of fun on or in the water. Fishing, boating, kayaking, snorkelling, paddle boarding and scuba diving are readily available as are a range of water tours.

There are three dining options at the hotel, the main one being West 82 Bar & Grill which is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Dining is indoors or alfresco on the lovely veranda, offering great views across the grounds. Dinner represents a feast of she-crab soup, slow-cooked baby back ribs, shrimp, grits and pan-seared grouper. Otherwise, bring in your own catch of the day where the chef will prepare it for you, accompanied by house-made chips and coleslaw. Connected to the lobby is the bar at West 82 where you can enjoy light bites, coffee and drinks or head over to the Tiki Bar for shareable bar plates, gator bites, burgers and salads. It’s beside the pool and a great spot for a chilled drink under the Florida sun. Stop by the 19th Hole Sports Bar & Grill for breakfast, lunch or a cool drink after a round of golf. It’s a relaxed hangout and the place to catch a game on the TV screens.
