The Crane is a vast resort, set on one of the finest pink-sand beaches in Barbados. Dating back to 1887, it’s widely thought to be one of the oldest operating hotels in the Caribbean. Despite the hotel’s age, you’ll find modern accommodation and extensive facilities spread throughout the turreted hotel buildings. Facilities include an array of restaurants, picturesque swimming pools, a central village square with shops and a kids’ club.
Nestled on the secluded south east of coast of Barbados, The Crane enjoys the island’s rugged natural beauty. Perched on a low cliff – overlooking the breakers of the Atlantic Ocean and the soft pink sand of Crane Beach – this location is as breath-taking as it is romantic. There are scenic beaches close by, and the water conditions are often ideal for boogie boarding and body surfing. On Friday nights, you can head to the acclaimed Oistins Fish Fry (about eight and a half miles away). If you’re looking to explore Bridgetown, the island’s capital, it lies about 13 miles away on the south west coast). The hotel is just less than five miles away from Grantley Adams International Airport.
All accommodation is spacious and features either hardwood or stone tiled flooring, handcrafted four-poster beds and mahogany furniture. Most marble bathrooms are complete with a spa shower and bathtub with jets. Whilst Garden view Junior Suites still include a kitchenette, the other room types feature a full kitchen and washer dryer. Many suites provide separate bedroom and living space, and all offer a private balcony or terrace with views of either the pool, tropical garden or ocean. Begin your day with a buffet breakfast at L’Azure restaurant, where you can try pancakes, cooked breakfasts (including a vegan breakfast) and continental options. For lunch and dinner, the restaurant specialises in seafood and serves a tempting range of international and Caribbean delicacies. The restaurant also boasts panoramic views across the Atlantic Ocean or Crane Beach and provides a Bajan buffet lunch on Sundays. For an authentic Italian dinner, head to the charming Crane Village where you’ll find D’Onofrio’s. There’s also Zen which offers specialist Japanese and Thai cuisine with wonderful views of Crane Beach. It’s open for dinner six nights per week.
The Carriage House – originally the hotel’s stables over a century ago – is now a contemporary poolside bar and grill. Order tasty grilled snacks and refreshing mixers during lunch time and enjoy featured themed nights when available. Alternatively, The Grove Bar & Grill boasts a prime beachfront location amongst the coconut groves. This is a popular lunchtime spot, where you can sample Bajan favourites in a casual, alfresco setting.
Treat yourself to something sweet at the Village Café (open daily). Order a cooling ice cream, a specialty coffee or a homemade pastry. In the evenings, Bar 1887 is the perfect spot to enjoy drinks and lite bites. Watch mixologists create signature cocktails or Jazz entertainment on selected nights.
In-room dining is available for breakfast and dinner, or you can book a private chef to cook a meal for you in your kitchen (for a supplement).
