Overview

If you’re craving an ultra-peaceful stay in South Africa’s Table Mountain range, look no further than The Twelve Apostles. This luxurious hotel, tucked away on the side of the mountain with azure sea views, is the ideal setting for self-care. Make a splash at the infinity pool and rock pool, including lounger service, or sink into a state of bliss at the spa featuring lavish Elemis treatments and hammam rituals in the Rasul chamber. To top it off, two on-site restaurants proudly showcase seafood dishes and their bar with a passion for leopard print serves quirky cocktails.

The Twelve Apostles is built into the cascading cliffside of the Table Mountain range. Atlantic Ocean waves splash Sandy Cove’s jumble of rocks at the foot of the hotel, while the surrounding mountain trails reveal panoramas of Camps Bay in the distance. Make the most of the hotel’s complimentary shuttle to Cape Town, seven miles away. Here, you can hop on the cableway to the top of Table Mountain or indulge in seafood dishes at The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront’s stylish bistros. For more nature, head 11 miles to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, where a flurry of flora dazzle and the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway provides a bird’s eye view above the treetops. In addition, Cape Town International Airport is 17 miles away.

The Twelve Apostles is housed in a white colonial style building, where an amphitheatre of greenery encompasses the chirps of jewel-toned hummingbirds. The series of contemporary rooms are outfitted with floral wallpaper and filled with magnolia furniture and duck egg blue furnishings. In addition, all rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies, which let in lots of light and frame Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles Mountain range. For upgraded views, choose the Superior Sea Facing Suite with unparalleled Atlantic Ocean vistas, as well as a lounge area and a bathtub and shower.

The heated infinity pool is the ultimate place to unwind with its Breton striped sun loungers and vast sea views. For more poolside bliss, relax by the Rock Pool, where the waters are encased in the cliffside and coral-coloured fynbos surround the scene. Sit back on a sun lounger, enjoy the crystal-clear waters or take advantage of waiter service at both pools. You can also rejuvenate with fruit, water and magazines at the refreshment stations strategically placed between the two.

If self-care is a top priority, head to the spa. This soothing oasis boasts a hot and cold hydrotherapy pool, a Rasul Chamber with hammam treatments and two mountain gazebos with sea views. For a real treat, opt for an Elemis Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow in the comfort of the gazebo, or get holiday ready with an OPI pedicure –as treatments are very popular, it’s best to book in advance. Once your treatment ends, chill out in the tranquillity lounge with a mint tea. There is also a gym next door with treadmills and cross trainers for fitness enthusiasts.

The hotel’s gardens are connected to marked trails in the Twelve Apostle Mountain range. Amble through cliffsides flourishing with dragon trees or take a hike with a guide – and you might learn a thing or two about the unique ecosystem. Posh picnics are also on offer in the fynbos gardens. Sink into a plush armchair under an umbrella and gaze out to azure sea views with a charcuterie board and sauvignon blanc in hand.

If films take your fancy, visit the 16-seater cinema in house. Films with Dolby surround sound are shown four times a day with a mixture of complimentary popcorn, sweets and drinks– perfect to entertain little ones.

Dining information

You have a choice of two restaurants and one bar. The Azure Restaurant presents a fine dining menu of South African cuisine and local seafood, like crayfish and hake. Sushi is also whipped up during the day. Retreat to the terrace for a side of sea views in the salt air. Meanwhile, The Cafe Grill is more laidback with sandwiches and pasta dishes. Plus, there is a sweet milkshake menu, juicy burgers and views of Table Mountain – perfect for the entire family. What’s more, you can enjoy the offerings poolside.

Once you’re after some refreshments, The Leopard Bar has you covered. Sip on signature cocktails made by the mixologists in leopard-print waistcoats. Try the fynbos martini, which is made with vermouth, gin and fragrant fynbos, or go for a fail-safe favourite, like a Negroni. Nonetheless, both pair well with the sunset views over the sea and slow pop music in the background. You can also have High Tea here or savour sips from their cognac collection in the evening. Next door, The Conservatory hosts gin tastings and a lounge area to relax with a cocktail or two.
