If you are travelling with children, for example, you will be pushed to find a hotel that is more helpful. With the names and ages of your children provided in advance, they will be greeted with plenty of goodies according to age. These could include milk and cookies on arrival, child-sized bathrobes, children's toiletries and alphabet bath sponges. You may also request safety gadgets, pool fencing, strollers, bottles and toys. The kids' club includes a pool, playroom, quiet room and bakery. For teenagers there is table tennis, Xbox and Wii, online computers, a lounge and DJ booth.

It's not just children who are spoilt for choice. For adults there are two 18-hole golf courses, one designed by Ernie Els at Anahita Golf Club and the other is a Bernhard Langer signature course at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club – both of which boast stunning Indian Ocean views. There's also golf lessons, an infinity edge, free-form and 25m lap pool, two tennis courts (booking required) and a fully equipped gym with cross trainers and a boxing area. Classes include spinning, circuit training and aerobics. There is also paddle boarding, complimentary bicycles, and nature walks.

If all that sounds a little too energetic, lose yourself in the hotel library, lie back on one of the four pristine beaches, retreat to the exclusive beach at Ile aux Cerfs or head to the Oseyan Spa. The pampering menu is impressive with a wide range of head-to-toe treatments, as well as hair and beauty services. The spa features 12 treatment pavilions, set on stilts over the lagoon and a yoga pavilion with a choice of wellness classes. Listen to the gentle lapping of the waves as you enjoy a massage or sink into a state of bliss at the Hammam or sauna.

Chaloupe is the main restaurant serving buffet breakfast and dinner, as well as an enticing a la carte lunch menu. Enjoy a selection of Mediterranean and Mauritian specialities, regular themed evenings, an array of culinary experiences and live shows on selected nights. For lighter bites at lunch, head to La Plaz at Ile aux Cerfs where you can linger on swinging bar stools over grilled dishes and local beers. Blu’Zil offers light tapas and handcrafted cocktails during the day.

Reserve a table at any of the a la carte restaurants for dinner. Open exclusively for dinner, Ti Pwason serves succulent, grilled prime cuts, alongside speciality seafood creations. Dine at Radici for contemporary Italian cuisine, the extensive wine list here offers the perfect pairings. AWASE offers a fusion of seafood inspired Japanese dishes with an island setting for starlit oceanside dining, while Angara serves Indian dishes and the Rum Library treats you to tempting tipples and rum-infused cocktails in the evening. In-villa dining is also available 24/7 (subject to extra charge).

If you're staying on half board, you can enjoy buffet breakfast and dinner at Chaloupe. In addition, tuck into three-course dinners at all the a la carte dinner venues.
