Price change FAQs

We’ve kept our Reward Flight prices at the same level for some time, but we’re having to make these changes as a result of increasing Air Passenger Duty and third-party charges, as well as changing market conditions and ongoing inflation.

We’ve included examples of changes for some popular routes in the table above.

Once logged in to your British Airways Club account from 15 December, the new costs will be displayed as Avios plus a cash amount when you search for a reward seat.

If you have an existing booking and you want to change the flight to depart on or after 15 December, then the existing rates will apply as long as you make the change before 15 December.

If you make a change on or after 15 December, then the new rates will apply if you wish to change:

  • destination
  • cabin
  • seasonality (for example, changing from an off-peak to a peak date)

If you make a change after 15 December to the time or date of your flight, within the same seasonality and to the same destination, then there won’t be an additional Avios charge.

Examples:

  1. You made a Reward Flight booking on 1 December to fly from London to New York, using 40,000 Avios to travel on 10 January. On 7 January, you decide to change from a morning flight to an afternoon flight on the same day. There will be no additional Avios charge to make this change.
  2. You made a Reward Flight booking on 1 December to fly from London to New York, using 40,000 Avios to travel on 10 January. On 7 January, you decide to upgrade the cabin from World Traveller (economy) to World Traveller Plus (premium economy). You’ll be charged the difference between the original amount of Avios paid (40,000), and the new higher amount for World Traveller Plus which was introduced on 15 December.

No, if you have an existing Reward Flight booked for travel on or after 15 December 2025, and you don't want to make any changes to it, there’ll be no impact to your booking, and you can travel as planned.

If you make a change on or after 15 December, then the new rates will apply if you want to change destination, cabin or seasonality (for example, changing from an off-peak to a peak date).

Yes, the changes will affect both the Avios and cash elements of the fare. You can see some examples of these changes in the table above.

These changes apply to all British Airways-operated flights, to all destinations.

Yes, these changes apply to all British Airways flights across each cabin.

Reward Flights booked in First will also still be subject to taxes, fees and charges.

The amount of Avios required to upgrade from one cabin to the other will be based on the updated Avios pricing.

If you have an existing booking and want to upgrade using Avios on or after 15 December, you’ll be charged the higher Avios rate.

Yes, these changes apply to all pricing options across all British Airways flights.

Once logged in to your British Airways Club account from 15 December, you'll be able to see the different Avios & Money options when you search for reward seats.

No, Avios part payment isn’t changing. These changes only affect Reward Flights.

Use your Avios to explore the world

  • Fly to any destination, in any class.
  • Fly with British Airways, Iberia, American Airlines and airlines within our oneworld® alliance, as well as other partners.
  • Tailor your ticket to your needs:

Avios part payment – reduce the cash price for your flight with as little as 1,000 Avios. The more Avios you use, the less cash you’ll need to pay.

Reward Flight – our Reward Flights offer a fixed cash cost, inclusive of taxes, fees and carrier charges plus an Avios amount.

Reward Flights explained

On all our British Airways flights to and from London Heathrow and London Gatwick we guarantee a minimum number of reward seats. We offer at least:

  • Eight seats in economy (Euro Traveller and World Traveller)
  • Two seats in premium economy (World Traveller Plus)
  • Four in business (Club Europe and Club World).

On flights to and from London City we guarantee:

  • Two reward seats in business (Club Europe)
  • Two reward seats in economy (Euro Traveller)

Reward Flights offer customers great value flights with a low, flat fee to cover taxes, fees and carrier charges and a fixed Avios amount.

Reward Flights can also be taken with Iberia, American Airlines and our oneworld partners. The difference when travelling with these airlines is that the cash amount required to cover the taxes, fees and carrier charges is variable rather than fixed.

Reward Flight FAQs

A Reward Flight consists of:

  • Avios
  • A fixed cash amount to cover taxes, fees and carrier charges

The Avios and cash price you pay for your Reward Flight is dependent on date, destination and class of travel.

Your chosen date of travel will dictate if you pay a peak or off-peak Avios amount. When booking Reward Flights, you can choose all peak dates, all off-peak dates or a mixture of the two.

If you don’t have a high enough Avios balance for either of our Reward Flight options, or you would simply like to carry on saving for your next reward, you can reduce the Avios cost by paying an additional cash amount. The fewer Avios used, the more you will pay in cash.

At checkout, you will be presented with a range of Avios & Money payment options, where available.

There are even more ways to top up your Avios to reach your next reward:

We have partnerships with several other airlines, including our partners in the oneworld alliance, so that we can offer a greater choice of destinations to our customers.

When you search for Reward Flights, we will show availability on British Airways first. We’ll then show availability with partners for this flight and on destinations we don’t operate or have availability.

For assistance booking with a specific partner, please call our contact centre.

Working out the cost

The number of Avios required for partner flights may vary from British Airways, depending on route and distance travelled.

As with British Airways, Avios prices for Reward Flights are dependent on date, destination and class of travel.

For flights with two or more oneworld partners, or British Airways plus two or more oneworld partners, use the link below to find out what you need to pay.

Avios costs for booking with two or more oneworld partner airlines.

In most circumstances, you'll be able to cancel or change Reward Flights subject to availability, for a small service fee. Please see our booking and service fees for further detail.

Please be aware:

  • Some changes may require additional Avios, for example if you're changing your date of travel from off-peak to peak. All changes will be shown in Manage My Booking, or explained over the phone before they are made.
  • When changing from a peak to off-peak date, we'll refund any difference in Avios price. However, for Avios part payment bookings, we'll be unable to refund any difference in the money portion of the price. You'll be able to cancel the original flights for a full refund and make a new booking instead.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the first flight in your itinerary to be eligible for a refund.

Many changes to simple Reward Flights can be made online in Manage My Booking. You'll need to call our contact centre in the following circumstances:

  • Changing a British Airways Reward Flight from an off-peak date to a peak date
  • Changing a British Airways Reward Flight from a peak date to an off-peak date and require an immediate refund of Avios
  • If the Reward Flight booking was made using any type of voucher, such as a Companion Voucher or Travel Together Ticket
  • If the Reward Flight booking contains a connecting flight
  • If the Reward Flight has been upgraded using Avios
