Overview
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort French Quarter blends the vibrancy of Mardis Gras with the romance of New Orleans’ iconic French Quarter. This riverfront property offers meticulous grounds, with pastel-coloured buildings, cast iron railings, elegant fountains, and wide leafy walkways which are lined with traditional gas lamps. The resort is also home to a colourful pool area with a water slide, a southern-inspired jazz lounge, and a family-friendly restaurant which serves authentic Creole cuisine. Use of the Walt Disney World Resort shuttle buses and water taxis are included in your stay.
The resort is set along the banks of the Sassagoula River, in the Disney Springs Resort area. You can meander along the river to the neighbouring resort – Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside – or take a steamboat-style water taxi. The water taxi will also transport you to Disney Springs, which is a mile and a half away. The Disney bus service runs between the hotel and the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, including the nearby Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park (around two miles away) and Epcot (less than three miles away). Outside of the Walt Disney World Resort, you can reach Universal Studios Florida in less than 13 miles, and Orlando International Airport in around 20 miles.
The rooms are simply decorated, with touches of antebellum design. The dark wood headboards and solid furnishings are ornately curved and feature fleur-de-lis carvings, while the bathroom door frames have wrought-iron corners. Bathrooms offer a double vanity sink and a patterned shower curtain divides the combined shower and bath area. Standard room amenities include a flat-screen TV, coffee maker and mini- fridge. Rooms come with either two queen-sized beds or a king-sized bed, and mainly differ in terms of room views. The views are of the garden, courtyard, riverfront, or parking area – although no rooms have balconies.

Other facilities
The Doubloon Lagoon is a Mardi Gras-themed pool area. It features a scaly sea serpent slide which snakes around the pool. King Neptune sits atop the mythical creature’s head, and the large serpent tongue drops you back into the water. On the outskirts of the pool, giant clamshell structures provide ample shade and there’s a separate hot tub. You can also make use of the pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside, which is a short walk away.
An additional water play area lies next to the Doubloon Lagoon, offering younger children a paddling pool with mini water slides and fountains – which are gold, purple, and green in keeping with the Mardi Gras theme. Alternatively, little ones can stay dry playing in the courtyard playground, adjacent to the main pool, while the South Quarter Games area provides video games and classic arcade games for all age groups.
Plenty of activities are on offer at the resort (for a supplement), including fishing excursions on the river, horse-drawn carriage rides around the property and Painting On De Bayou art classes. As the sun goes down, there’s the opportunity to watch complimentary Disney film screenings out on the green, or you can take part in Cajun Campfire activities.
If keeping active is a priority, you can walk or jog around the scenic, one-mile jogging track or take part in the weekly Beignet Fun Run. Otherwise, rent a bicycle and cycle along the landscaped banks of the Sassagoula River.
Dining information
Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory is a casual, quick-service restaurant which specialises in classic Cajun and Creole cuisines. The food court contains several stations which serve popular fare such as pizzas, burgers and sandwiches, as well as hot options such as jambalaya, chicken, ribs and fish dishes. A takeaway counter allows you to order drinks, snacks and pre-made sandwiches on the go. Be sure to try the restaurant’s freshly baked goods which include beignets and king cake.
Scat Cat's Club is an inviting jazz lounge which serves specialty cocktails, draft beers, and light appetisers. Listen to live music while soaking up the intimate bar atmosphere. If you’re by the pool, you can also order drinks at the Mardi Grogs bar.
As part of the Disney Resorts Pizza Delivery service, you can order oven-made pizzas and drinks directly to your room.
Additional information
Come for the themed hotels, stay for the benefits: there are many good reasons to stay on-site when you visit Walt Disney World, not least you'll have 30-minute early entry into Walt Disney World theme parks every day. You'll also have the chance to have breakfast with your favourite Disney characters. With the complimentary Resort transportation, getting to the gates of each park is a breeze. Or if you've hired a car you can enjoy complimentary standard parking at Disney theme parks, Disney water parks and the Disney Springs area too.
If you're planning on visiting a Disney park up until 8 Jan 2024 you must make a reservation using the Disney Park Pass system. You’ll need to create a My Disney Experience account, so you can link your valid theme park tickets for each person in your party (ages three and up) to your account. Once your admission is linked to your account, you can begin to make a park reservation by selecting your date, park and time from the available reservations. To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid admission for the same park on the same date are required. From 9 Jan 2024 theme park reservations will no longer be required for date-based tickets. For other admission types, theme park reservations may be required.
If you book a Walt Disney Resort you can also purchase the MagicBand+, at a pre-arrival price, which opens up lots of key features. You can make your first individual Lightning Lane purchase from 07:00 each day of your visit, before the park opens, and you can select a one-hour arrival window, one at a time, for up to two different attractions per day.
