The area offers historical museums, art galleries and sprawling parks, including the Sarasota Jungle Gardens and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. As for golf, the closest course is Manatee County Golf Course (around 12 miles away), but you have plenty to choose from. Tampa International Airport is 60 miles away.
Two brilliant white art deco buildings house a good selection of spacious, contemporary rooms. They are decorated in soft teal and furnished with a thick light grey carpet. Natural light bathes the room from floor-to-ceiling windows, while the balcony offers either the pool, partial Gulf or beachfront views. Standard facilities include a coffee maker, a mini-fridge, flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. The hub of the hotel sits around the U-shaped pool area, which overlooks the ocean. It’s lined either side with an avenue of palm trees and a plentiful supply of pastel green sun loungers on the spacious deck. You can book poolside cabanas for extra comfort which feature a big screen TV, a refrigerator for cold drinks and a private safe for your valuables while you take a dip. The beach itself has a private section for hotel guests, where loungers and towels are free (up to two per day). Additional beach loungers, sand chairs, beach umbrellas, beach cabanas and beach day beds are available for rent, along with kayaks and paddleboards. Located on the third floor is a fantastic 24/7 fitness centre. It’s kitted out with high-tech cardio machines and strength training equipment – and boasts panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico.
Dining information
Although the hotel has only one on-site restaurant, Viento Kitchen + Bar certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s beautifully styled, fitted with cream marble flooring, soft sandstone brickwork and comfy oatmeal bucket chairs. It’s open for breakfast and dinner, serving up a menu of ‘Floribbean’ dishes. Breakfast is a comforting array of seasonal fruits, Greek yogurt bowls and create-your-own three egg omelettes. There are also Belgian waffles, buttermilk pancakes and a full American cooked feast.
Grab-and-go croissants and bagels make for a quick treat, and there’s a full drinks menu. Evening service is a real highlight, featuring a delectable menu of ribeye steak, jumbo Gulf shrimp and pan-seared grouper. Choose a wine from the unique floating rack to complement your mains.
Cascades Pool Bar is open during the day for light lunches, sandwiches, salads and refreshing drinks - be sure to try the poolside Mary house speciality. The poolside service means you’ll never have to leave your lounger. In the evening, head to the open-air lounge bar for cocktails. The hotel also provides in-room dining from Viento’s full menu.
