Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort is an idyllic retreat, set within beautifully landscaped tropical gardens, on Samui’s east coast. It’s situated along a private stretch of beach, bordered by a stunning infinity pool, beach bar and restaurant. There’s an outstanding collection of rooms, suites and villas – many of which feature a beautiful plunge pool and a four-poster bed. In addition, you have access to an exceptional spa, a fully equipped fitness centre and a dedicated rooftop boxing ring for Thai boxing. Little ones are welcomed at the kids’ club which provides a superb programme of creative activities, plus babysitting is available.
The resort is located in a peaceful area of Chaweng, around three miles north from its lively centre, which is brimming with shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. While here, it’s also worth experiencing the Chaweng Walking Street Night Market, where you can purchase local handicrafts, clothing and accessories, as well as devour some of the best street food in the area. The island’s best-known and spectacular landmark – Big Budda temple (Wat Phra Yai) is just over six miles away, as is the stunning Buddhist temple of Wat Plai Laem. Book a boat trip to Ang Thong National Marine Park to view the mesmerising scenery, relax on the picture-perfect sandy beaches and swim in the shimmering sea. Samui Airport is less than five miles away while Bangkok International Airport (Suvarnabhumi Airport) is under 500 miles away.
Nestled within the lush, tropical grounds is a superb selection of spacious, high-end accommodation. Architecturally and decor-wise, they are characteristic of traditional Thai houses, with pitched wooden roofs, pillars, warm wooden decking and fretwork screens. Bathrooms are undeniably luxurious, fitted with a sunken bath offering views across the gardens and a rainfall shower, while the balcony features a sumptuous daybed for snoozing. Upgrade to an Anantara Pool Villa to benefit from a four-poster bed draped in flowing curtains, indoor and outdoor showers and an elegant living room overlooking the large terrace with a private plunge pool.

Other facilities
The jewel in the hotel’s crown is the spectacular, elevated infinity pool, which is surrounded by swaying palms and offers incredible views across the ocean. There are plenty of striking red parasols and sun loungers to sink into, although the pool is best enjoyed from the cosy double cabanas – dressed in flowing curtains. The bar and restaurant are close by for snacks and refreshing drinks – twice a day you’ll be treated to fresh fruit skewers and ice lollies. During low tide, the beach is perfect for snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding, or you can join a Hatha yoga class or try tai chi or Muay Thai (Thai boxing) at the hotel’s dedicated rooftop boxing ring.
In keeping with the rest of the hotel, the on-site spa is a peaceful sanctuary, offering an exceptional menu of body and facial treatments, massages, steam and bath rituals, beauty treatments and kids’ pampering. In addition, wellness therapies are provided including Crystal Chakra Balancing, Indian Head Massages and Himalayan Thermal Therapy, as well as wellness retreats – lasting one to five days. Be sure to indulge in the signature Anantara Lawana Coconut Paradise experience, consisting of a floral foot ritual, a coconut scrub, a coconut wrap and a coconut signature massage. You also have access to the fitness centre, equipped with a great selection of treadmills, free weights, bikes and running machines.
Furthermore, there’s the Little Birds Kids’ Club, where children can explore, play and enjoy a weekly programme of exciting activities, from arts and crafts – including balloon art, gel candle making, origami and umbrella painting – to interactive treasure hunts and a kids’ movie night.
Dining information
Overlooking the sea is the light and airy Ocean Kiss restaurant, offering an extensive Asian and Western a la carte menu, and a well-stocked wine cellar. It’s open all day, so you can drop by for an alfresco green breakfast bowl of quinoa, kale, eggs, avocado, miso and pumpkin seed, or visit the Indian kitchen corner that serves authentic masala dosa and paratha. Lunchtime favourites include sushi, club sandwiches, pizza and pasta, otherwise feast on piri-piri chicken and dishes from the barbecue for dinner. For a more casual (and fun) experience, head to the Crab Shack where eating with your fingers is encouraged. Choose a seafood bucket of local freshwater black crabs, tiger prawns, scallops, mussels and clams – served with garlic toast and corn on the cob.
Beside the Crab Shack is the laid-back Sandal - Beach Lounge, perfect for feet-in-the-sand drinks and snacks during the day, or cocktails and chilled beers in the evening. Be sure to visit The Singing Bird Lounge to watch the sunset – accompanied by a symphony of birds singing. The hotel’s fine dining restaurant, Tree Tops Signature Dining, is a real showstopper. As the name suggests, eight private salas are nested high in the tree canopy where you can enjoy two set menus including A Symphony of Sea & Land, showcasing both land and seafood dishes, or Garden Symphony which features vegetarian dishes across eight courses.
You can also choose to dine in the comfort of your own room or try Designer Dining by Anantara for a feast of Thai dishes, served directly on the beach.
