It’s surrounded by tropical vegetation and feels blissfully secluded, even though the popular city centre of Playa del Carmen is only about five miles away. Here, cafes, shops and taquerias sit alongside ancient Mayan ruins and cenotes. Be sure to stop by Cenote Azul (Blue Cenote), featuring several paradisiacal pools underground, each varying in depth. The well-known archaeological site of Tulum is around 44 miles from the hotel. Its ruins are well worth a visit, perched just above a beautiful beach, and you can find tasty tacos in the town centre. Cancun International Airport is approximately 33 miles away.
Spaced throughout the property, low-rise, whitewashed buildings, topped with thatched roofs overlook the established gardens, glistening pool or beach. Dining information
Although the hotel only offers one on-site restaurant, it’s sensational. Santa Sirena overlooks the beach, offering a rich and tantalising Mexican fusion menu, using locally sourced ingredients. Special dietary requirements are catered for with ease (even with off-menu dishes), plus you can enjoy beachside barbeques, Sunday brunch and six-course tasting menus. In the evening, head to the bar where mixologists tailor incredible cocktails to your preference. You might even be given an impromptu lesson on tequila and mescal, their origins, as well as a tasting. There are also food pop-ups throughout the week. Raw Bar operates four days a week, serving oysters, giant prawns, mussels, Yucatan octopus and more. Meanwhile, The Meat Shop serves prime-quality meats two days a week.
You can also visit Essence at the Fives Beach (located next door) for a great range of restaurants (and bars), cuisines ranging from Mediterranean, French, Italian and the Far East.
