Overview

The Coral Reef Club is an elegant boutique-style resort, delivering old-world Caribbean luxury alongside exceptional service. The family owned hotel boasts some of the most beautiful tropical hotel gardens in all of Barbados and offers a range of first-class facilities – including a fabulous spa, fine dining restaurant and two scenic swimming pools.

Lying on the tranquil west coast of Barbados, this intimate resort boasts a peaceful ambience set back a short distance from the road. It’s not far from the shops and restaurants of Holetown; for more shopping visit the Limegrove luxury shopping centre – just half a mile away. Two championship golf courses, Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane Country Club, are within a mile and a half from the hotel; and you can reach Bridgetown, the island’s historic capital city, in just over seven miles. Grantley Adams International Airport is nearly 18 miles away.

Most of the accommodation is nestled in buildings with wooden balustrading and shuttered windows. You’ll typically find tiled flooring, neutral toned walls, crisp white bedding and wicker armchairs in all rooms. This is enhanced by the tasteful colonial-style prints. A standard feature is a private terrace or balcony with either garden, pool or Caribbean Sea views. You’ll need to request a TV or tea tray if you would like these in your room – although they are automatically included in Plantation Suites. Standard Garden rooms and cottages are the most affordable options, with plenty of space and privacy. Upgrade to a Luxury Plantation Suite for outstanding sea views, a stocked bar on arrival and a private plunge pool. When booking this suite, you will also receive luxury airport transfers and a bottle of champagne on arrival.

Other facilities

A real highlight of the Coral Reef Club is its colourful tropical gardens. Meander through scenic pathways, down towards the beachfront to fully appreciate the property’s diverse flora and fauna. Occasionally, local hummingbirds and wild monkeys can be spotted in the treetops of Mahogany, Ylang Ylang and Frangipani trees. Weekly garden tours are even offered in the afternoon for those who have a keener interest in horticulture.

The small, sandy beach is bordered by casuarinas. Come here to relax or to enjoy a selection of complimentary, non-motorised water sports – whether you fancy kayaking, paddleboarding or snorkelling. There’s also a scuba diving school on site, offering lessons with fully qualified divers for a supplement. If you’re left craving more action, the property also features two pristine swimming pools, floodlit tennis courts (complimentary tennis coaching is provided) and a small gym, which is equipped with a range of cardio and weight training equipment.

During your stay, treat yourself to a full pampering experience at The Spa. Facilities here include an outdoor hydro-pool, shaded cabana area, steam room and lounge which is ideal for post treatment relaxation. The treatment rooms are integrated within the gardens and their open-sided design means that you can admire picture-perfect views. Yoga sessions take place twice weekly. There’s also the laid-back salon room, which offers manicures, pedicures and hairdressing services.

The hotel is suitable for families, offering babysitting service (charges apply) and baby equipment for no additional charge. This is available on request and includes cribs, highchairs, bed guards, play pens, sterilizers and so forth. Children aged five years or younger can enjoy restaurant dining until the early evening, whilst children’s room service is available for later dinners. Chefs can also tailor food requirements to suit younger babies. During high season, a special family programme is in place for children aged between 2 and 12 years, allowing younger guests to sample a variety of guided water activities.

Dining information

The restaurant, with daily changing a la carte menus, offers an extensive breakfast buffet with fresh pastries, breads and juices, as well as made-to-order cooked options. Lunch and dinner menus display tempting seafood and dishes with Caribbean ingredients and flavours. Guests are served in a delightful al fresco setting overlooking the ocean. There are several relaxing shady spots in which to enjoy cool tropical drinks or afternoon tea. Coral Reef is famous for its Rum and Planters Punch – but sip these delicious but deceptively powerful drinks slowly.

Live entertainment is offered every evening during the winter and five evenings per week during the summer. On Thursday night there’s a full barbeque, followed by a show featuring limbo dancing, folk dancing and fire eating.

Additional information

Children cannot be accommodated between 20th January and the 28th February.

The dress code is elegantly casual. At breakfast and lunch, ladies are requested to wear cover-ups in the restaurant, and gentlemen to wear short sleeves and no hats. After 19:00, gentlemen are required to wear long trousers in the restaurant and Cocktail Lounge. Shorts are permitted on The Reef Terrace only. On Christmas night the dress code is smart, and on New Year’s Eve, black tie, a jacket and tie, or a jacket and no tie are requested.
