Overview

Offering a classic, laid-back Caribbean experience, Coconut Court Beach is one of the most affordable hotels in Barbados. Its sprawling palm-studded beach is one of the most scenic on the island, whilst its cheerful character and friendly vibes make it a popular choice year on year.

Settled on the magnificent south coast, this is the ideal place to relax and explore the beautiful island of Barbados. The sandy stretches of Hastings Beach connect to the property and it’s here that you’ll find a protected, aquamarine lagoon which is ideal for safe water swimming or snorkelling. Head 270 metres eastwards along the shoreline, and you’ll reach the beautiful Accra Beach – a location where endangered Hawksbill turtles often come to nest each summer season.

If you feel like sightseeing, you’re in the right place; this hotel is close to local restaurants, little souvenir shops and the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site of Barbados Garrison. Step back in time when visiting the Barbados Museum, George Washington House or the National Armoury – all of which are within easy walking distance. Enjoy colonial architecture and duty-free shopping at the island’s capital, Bridgetown, which lies just two and a half miles away. Alternatively take a short drive to the famous St Lawrence Gap to indulge in a leisurely Bajan lunch or sunset dinner. If you’re more in the mood for competitive sport, Rockley Golf course is also close to the hotel. Coconut Court Beach is located just under ten miles from Grantley Adams International Airport.

The 112 traditional rooms of the hotel are spread across five-storeys, alongside separate self-catering apartments which are across the road from the main building – set away from the beach. Standard rooms are spacious and family-friendly, although they could be considered slightly basic and outdated in terms of their decor. If you prefer full ocean views, it’s best to opt for a Deluxe Oceanfront room or a Superior Oceanfront room. These room types have private balconies and complete ocean views and most (including the bathrooms) have been renovated to appear fresher and more modern – with walk-in showers, pull-out sofas and newly tiled flooring. Standard rooms tend to provide partial ocean views whilst One and Two Bedroom Apartments have private patios which overlook the garden and hotel buildings only. If you cannot access upper floors easily, be sure to book a ground level room as there are no elevator facilities in the building.

Other facilities

Coconut Court is a family-run hotel and their commitment to service and hospitality will be evident from the moment you arrive. You’ll find a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, full of Caribbean charm and friendly staff. For a less expensive hotel, the facilities offer great value for money. First there’s the long, scenic beachfront which is perfect for sunbathing or swimming. You’ll find plenty of sun loungers with natural shade from the coconut and almond trees and you can refresh your taste buds at the lively beach bar after sunset sojourns. From the beach, walk along the South Coast Broadwalk to Rockeley beach, admiring the scenery and stopping off at local shops or eateries along the way.

Swim safely in the beach lagoon or in the large, freshwater swimming pool and relax in the cool water whirlpool. There’s also a shallow paddling pool for smaller children. If you’re feeling active, play beach volleyball or head to the activities desk, where you can hire water sports equipment or arrange island excursions.

The hotel also boasts regular movie nights on the beach and has an on-site foreign currency exchange. There’s a handy convenience store on site so that you can purchase those last-minute gifts or a small snack at the hotel. The Complimentary Hospitality Suite is a highlight for guests who have late return flights. This service is available on request and it allows you to shower and fully prepare for your flight home, even after you’ve checked-out at 12:00.

Dining information

The Deck is the main restaurant, providing an open-air dining experience with views of the white, sandy beachfront. This is where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served each day. It’s an informal affair, with an uncomplicated a la carte menu or barbecued buffet in the evenings. Expect to find local dishes and family-favourites such as pasta, grilled seafood, ribs, burgers, steak and so forth.

Jake’s has a cool and colourful Caribbean vibe. Sip rum-inspired cocktails during daily happy hours whilst listening to authentic reggae music. Bajan favourites will usually be promoted, including flying fish, macaroni pudding, buffalo chicken or plantain fritters. To truly unwind on the beach, visit Captain Charlie’s Beach Bar. This quintessential beach bar offers cocktail specials and light bites throughout the day, whether you fancy a home-made salad or a fresh sandwich after your swim. The enticing terrace is a relaxing space to savour the views and refreshments which are on offer.
