Bougainvillea Barbados is a charming resort possessing modern, all-suite accommodation which overlooks the beautiful beachfront. The brightly coloured flowers, for which the hotel is named, can be found throughout this Mediterranean-style property in addition to family-friendly restaurants, a relaxing spa complex, kids’ club, scenic pools and a plethora of water sports.
The resort boasts a first-class location on the south coast, close to many island attractions. Located just over seven miles from Grantley Adams International Airport, the hotel lies on one end of the picturesque Maxwell Beach, offering over 350 metres of white sandy beachfront. The vibrant restaurants, bars and nightlife of St Lawrence Gap are less than a mile away, and so is the popular Friday night 'Fish Fry' at Oistins. Barbados Golf Club is also located just under two and a half miles away.
Accommodation types include spacious studios and suites, which are particularly well-suited to families or groups. All suites and studios have a bright and airy feel with light wooden furniture, wicker chairs and sand-coloured floor tiles. Rooms are mostly decorated in fresh muted tones, but hints of tropical green, Caribbean turquoise and pale beachy yellows are noticeable in the in artwork and decor. Expect to find convenient, well-equipped kitchens in all types of accommodation, as well as a furnished balcony or terrace and comfy bathrobes with toiletries by The White Company. Rooms mainly differ in terms of the maximum occupancy and space, but they all enjoy delightful views of the Caribbean ocean, pool or pretty gardens. Deluxe Studios and Junior Suites have mini kitchens only, whilst all suites feature living rooms with pull-out sofas.

There are plenty of relaxing spaces throughout the property. The pristine beachfront is furnished with plentiful loungers, parasols and hammocks. Spend hours here, listening to the gentle lapping waves and local steel drum music. There are also three swimming pools on the hotel grounds, including a rectangular lap pool, an adult-only pool with swim-up bar and a scenic lagoon-style pool, which features a little footbridge and waterfalls. The wooden deck area is the perfect spot to sunbathe and sip refreshing cocktails. Admire ocean views and enjoy the shade afforded by leafy palms and towering casuarinas. You can also head to the onsite boutique store if you need to purchase a new swimsuit or sun hat.
If you begin to feel restless, embrace the wide range of activities on offer. A water sports centre is located on the beach, so you can try a variety of non-motorised sports such as paddle boarding, snorkelling, kayaking or windsurfing. On land you can play beach volleyball and shuffleboard. Otherwise, challenge an opponent for a game on the giant outdoor chessboard. There’s also a complimentary fitness centre, a sauna and a beauty salon offering a range of treatments.
Children under the age of 16 years old stay free all year-round. They can enjoy the exciting kids' club which promotes fun activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling, play park and beach games. The kids’ club is aimed at children who are 3 to 12 years old (although it only operates when a minimum of three children attend). For older children and teenagers, there’s a special games room with air hockey, pool table, table tennis and video games.
Calabash Café is Bougainvillea’s only restaurant, offering a casual ambience. This stylishly decorated restaurant is light and airy with dark wooden pillars, flooring and dining furniture. Breakfast buffets are generous, offering a range of continental options, made to order omelettes and pancakes with all the toppings. Dishes on the dinner menu are inspired by Caribbean and international flavours. Try the spicy beer-battered snapper or the brandy flamed steak, followed by traditional flavoured ice creams or the vanilla bean cheesecake.
Half board includes a buffet breakfast and dinner, and full board includes the addition of lunch. Drinks are not included. Some meals will incur extra charges, as will special event dinners, such as those on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
A compulsory tourism levy is charged per room, per night. This is not included in the rates and will need to be paid directly to the hotel in resort. Prices are subject to alter without notice.
Most public areas in the hotel are level and wheelchair accessible. There are ground-floor bedrooms available but no elevators.
In response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) there will be thermal temperature screening procedures in place and capacity will be reduced in the restaurants and bars.
