The main pool awaits with shimmering fresh water and lines of sunbeds – some of which sit in the shade of the resort’s abundant trees. The Zen Natural Pool is reserved for those aged 18 and older. Tall grass sways at the edge of this natural overflow pool where serenity seekers take a dip surrounded by lush greenery and vast sea views. The children’s pool, located by the kids’ clubs, allows little ones to cool off as they paddle and splash around in the shallow water.

From nearby golfing greens to on-site tennis courts, this resort offers plenty of facilities where you can put your trainers on and your skills to the test. Fancy something a little different? Swing through the sea breeze in a flying trapeze class or take an archery class to hone your aim with tumbling waves as your backdrop. Kids can get involved in the action, too, thanks to Da Balaia’s kids’ clubs. Baby Club Med provides a fun and safe space for your little ones aged from four months to two years. They can get creative in workshops, expand their horizons with early learning sessions and discover the wonders of the Algarve on walks. Toddling holiday-goers aged two to three can enjoy similar activities as well as show times at Petit Club Med. Meanwhile, kids aged four to ten can expect high-energy entertainment at Mini Club Med with the likes of archery, golf, trapeze and tennis. Junior Club Med, for 11 to 17 year olds, offers similar exciting activities.

Boasting beautiful sea and pool views, Le Balaia Restaurant is the resort’s main dining spot. Start your morning with a filling breakfast and dream about the day ahead, break up a packed itinerary with a leisurely lunch as you watch palm trees sway, then start your evening with dinner bathed in the golden hues of sunset. There’s also a Baby Corner so parents can get dinner ready for their little ones without having to miss out on a thing.

Pull up a chair in modern Vasco Gourmet Lounge, which is open from Monday to Friday. Large windows let the sun flood into the seating area and provide vistas over treetops and the sea beyond. At dinner time, savour a taste of the Algarve as you’re served locally inspired dishes. Find tipples and time to unwind at the Vasco Gourmet Bar. Alternatively, mull over a local fine wine or try something from further afield in the heart of the lounge. La Cave, the wine cellar, is bursting with palate-pleasing bottles just waiting to be popped open – sign up to a tasting experience for an extra cost.

Da Balaia has a range of bars to choose from. The main bar, the Falesia, is located by the central swimming pool so you can sip on a tall, cold drink while lazing on the pool deck. Zen Pool Bar serves up refreshing concoctions in the calm and quiet adult-only pool area. Meanwhile, night club O’Teatro Bar pumps up the music and promises lively evenings on its dancefloor.
