Overview

Nestled in the charming parish of Saint Philip, The Verandah Antigua is an adult-only, all-inclusive resort with a great range of facilities. There’s a spa, sporting activities and a large free-form pool. The resort is set in 30 acres of beachfront grounds and borders the Devil's Bridge National Park, with a choice of two sandy beaches backed with lush greenery and spectacular tropical scenery all around.

Antigua offers plenty to entice visitors including 365 white-sand beaches and an indented coastline, scores of fascinating museums and historic sights. A daily shuttle takes you into the capital of St John’s for a small fee while also serving the popular lookout point of Shirley Heights on Sundays. The island has two golf courses. Tee off at Cedar Valley, approximately 35 minutes' drive, or at Jolly Harbour some 45 minutes away.

There are literally hundreds of beaches to enjoy in Antigua and all of them are open to the public. Some of the best examples include Honeymoon Cove, Sea Grapes Beach, Eden Beach and Royal Palm Beach. The waves are perfect for surfing at Half Moon Bay, while for the optimum jet skiing experience head to Dickenson Bay at sunset. Hike up to the island’s highest point Boggy Peak at 1,300 feet. You can indulge in some premium souvenir shopping amid colourful buildings and artworks at Redcliffe Quay. Admire the views of the arched limestone bridge called Devil’s Bridge near Indian Town Point. You can visit Devil’s Bridge on a guided history tour across the island, also calling in at Nelson’s Dockyard, the Blockhouse and art gallery Fig Tree Studio. Go snorkelling at Turtle Beach and take in shipwrecks, tropical fish, turtles and stunning natural rock formations. You can also visit Fort James, built to guard the entrance to the harbour at St John’s. Antigua’s airport is a 30-minute drive away.

The accommodation includes spacious single-storey suites, featuring classic Caribbean architecture and decor. All enjoy private terraces while waterfront accommodation offers stunning views over the sea. The interiors are cool and spacious with elegant, vaulted ceilings. All rooms include mini-fridges, clock radio alarms, celling fans, hair dryers and ironing equipment. Hillside Suites are sizeable with one king-size bed and a queen sofa sleeper. Waterview Suites enjoy elevated views of the lush gardens and partial sea views, whilst Waterfront Suites have high ceilings, spacious sitting areas, and bathrooms with walk-in showers and double sinks.

Dining information

Seabreeze is the resort's main restaurant, serving a varied buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nicole's is a fine-dining restaurant that offers a blend of stylishly presented, modern French and Italian cuisine (an additional supplement applies, payable locally), and Portifonos is an Italian a la carte restaurant also serving up traditional Italian flavours. At sails and tails you can enjoy a grilled seafood and chilled refreshments in an open-air setting, while the Beach Grill also serves fabulously grilled fare - both eateries are the ideal spots to pull up a barstool, kick off your flip-flops and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. Dine at Papa Ricco's for wood-fired pizzas made-to-order or head to Cafe 17,61 for afternoon tea, a wide selection coffees, fruit smoothies, sweets and pastries.

You will get that relaxed, island feeling from the moment you arrive at The Verandah, starting with a refreshing fruit punch to welcome you. A choice of six bars and lounges keep you cool with a wide range of signature cocktails, top-shelf spirits, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages by the glass. Get into the island spirit at the Lazy Pelican Bar, a funky little beachside shack just off the main lobby building. If you don't want to stray far from the pool, you can cool off at the Pool Bar, outfitted in natural stone in keeping with the surroundings. The expansive and centrally located main lounge also overlooks the pool and the winding, limestone-walled pathways of the common. It's the place where you can meet and socialise, with fun and refreshments on tap day and night. Stop by the Wavy Wicket for a ice-cold beers and cocktails, alongside live music, movies and nightly entertainment on the big screen TVs.
